I'm starting to think about lowering the suspension on my corolla (02 model) is it a job i could tackle on my own?! Could anyone recommend brands etc?

Cheers for any advice.

best leave t to proffesionals unles you really know how to do it. If you lower it i would suggest you get a full kit compromising of coilovers etc because lowering it on stock will make your ride rough as all lowering does and it has no affect on performance either way. If you do it yourself you cant afford to make a mistake so best leave it there. There are people who will give you advice but get it done by someone who will know what they are doing properly.

It will affect how you drive and your car so the choice is yours.

depends on how confident you are. it is a straight forward job but like doing anything on a car things can go wrong liked seized components. always obtain torqe settings (i have these) when tightening things back up and be careful with the droplinks. lowering your car will make a small improvement on handling and keep a decent ride. i have a t sport and used Eibach springs which match the original dampers - if you want to drop more than 30mm you will need different shocks. try lowering her first and see if you get the desired result. if you go for uprated dampers the handling will be good but at the expense of ride quality - or the lack of it!
