Does anyone know of a way to add additional monitors to one pc ? at least a total of 2 or 3. The reason for this is that I need to be able to view different things on different monitors simultaneously.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated by a friend.

You need a video card for each monitor, or get a dual or multiple-head graphics card. Matrox(www.matrox.com) do one that supports up to 8 montors, or they do an expansion box (www.matrox.com/graphics/en/gxm/) that splits the display up across 2 or 3 monitors.

They're not the only company to sell such things though...

Bothy

You should write a book of things to fix in a way that nobody else has ever thought of. There is probably good reasons for people not doing it that way but that isn't the point, I think it is healthy for people to think "outside the box".

By the way you haven't been drinking ether again have you? You'll need every drop of that for the landy!!!

Latter point - naw. Aff the drink fur 3 weeks or mair the noo. Effort to lose weight but its no happening. Naebidy telt me the LR has a rear tub whit means ye cannae shove the seat backwards....tae change gear, ah need tae use both hands tae lift ma left foot ontae the clutch pedal. These things made fur the chinese market???

Spot o good news on the LR front - the ngine may only have worn piston rings or bores; and disnae burn the diesel properly neether causing excess fumes. An the noise may be the central transmission bearing bgrd.

2nd RAV project hoowever delayed cos the LR is taking up time and space.. probably start this one next week. The plan is tae do up the rear suspension on the 2nd RAV then swap it into the existing turbo'd machine. This leaves us tae get oan wi the 2nd conversion, probably more as a street car. The first I think we'll try out on hill climbs and sprints; and when I get good try it on the real circuits. Theres a few hills up here I can practice on....

I'm not sure you understand the scale of the problem. Let me review it for you. You are going to get the LR fixed and then go on to RAV4 v2.

Result? You will never get around to RAV4 v2.

Let me know if you want me to elaborate or we can do it over a beer in May because you will still be in the same boat in that short time (in the scale of fixing LR's).

I could always bolt the landrover to the front of the XJS. The LR brakes work once the anchors thrown out. The XJs engine works.... a bit like linking 2 loco engines thegether??

You need shcm to make you a fly by wire interface;

wires on the jag to levers and chains on the LR ;)

Sorry, I don't think I have the amount of skill needed to build in that legendary LR reliabilty  ;), which would be needed for such a project. What MTBF figure were you looking for? About 2-3 minutes would seem about right to me, in keeping with the nature of the vehicle.

For that ultimate "no time to do anything else but nurse the LR" experience, I think you should have gone for a 101 FC, or get yourself down to the Vehicle Heritage Centre at Gaydon and nick the "Dread Shed":

I think 2 - 3 hours would be Ok and no matter how well it is hidden, if there is a LR in there somewhere count me out! It only looks OK to me because it doesn't look like a LR!!!

Apologies, Of course Anchorman, my comments were really meant to be directed to Bothy rather than yourself.

One of those things does add to the LR "fun"?? of things though. Engine in the cab between passenger and driver for extra noise and vibration, plus when it stops after a few miles, you can fix it in the dry. Oh, silly me, that's not right - I forgot the cab will leak anyway

At the risk of bringing this thread back on topic... (!) :D

There's a new alternative to replacement video cards that one of my clients has developed, for those people who want simplicity and can't be bothered with upgrading their PC hardware and drivers. It's a way of adding up to six extra monitors simply via USB 2.0.

The performance is excellent - good enough for all general apps and full screen video (but not 3D games - yet!).

Check it out if you're interested at: http://www.displaylink.com

You can buy little adapters that convert the USB signal to VGA or DVI for around £70 - £80. You just need one per monitor.

Hope this helps.

Steve

  • 1 month later...

Depending on what kit you have around, there is an application called MaxiVista that lets you use a display on another PC as if it were connected to your PC - so if you have 2 PCs on your desk and they are networked, then you can use the 2nd PC as a 'slave' display - and you can also remotely control the 2nd PC with your PCs mouse and keyboard as well.

Sounds a bit confusing the way I have described it - best to have a look at their website.

I tried the s/w, liked it and bought it - think it was about £30
