4.3 Models With Spare Wheels

The police in Strathclyde (south ayrshire) have been using Rav 4.2 d4d for last couple of years and have just recently appeared with "57" plated 4.3 models. All with a full size spare on rear door.

Is XT3 only model with spare or is spare now deleted from all versions?

My 4.2 XTR D4D due for change in March so will be visiting showrooms soon and will check some of the opposition too.

Essential boxes to tick: spare wheel (even a spacesaver), cruise control and must be diesel.

Also like: parking sensors(dealer fit O.K. but NOT an aftermarket kit)and the performance of T180.

My 2007 CRV is fine and will do its 3 years O.K. but!! don't fancy having 2.

Hi Dru, cops been using 4.2's around this end of Strathclyde as well.

So far only the new model XT-R and T180's are without spare. For how much longer ? who knows.

Anyway recently when changing Rav's I had a look around at alternatives. Funny thing was, there wasn't any,

I just could not find a decent alternative to the Rav so ended up with a 4.3. Regarding the spare, I'm guessing

you are a bit worried about the rough terrain and long journeys to rallies. Solution, if it is the T180 you desire,

get the roof rails and crossbars and put it on the roof. Ok you also need to buy the spare, and through recent

communications I have had with Kingo, a runflat spare is considerabley cheaper than a normal spare for an

XT-R. Work that one out.

Dave. ;)

PS, the new XT-R has cruise control back on again (dont know why they removed it, like you I had it on my

4.2 XT-R) and parking sensors as standard. Both of which I dont have,as I just missed out on most

recent model.

Nope, spare on the XT3 , XT4 and XT5 still. Just the XTR and T180 haven't got them.

Oh my goodness....

I rushed outside this evening and guess what??? The spare is still on my RAV...phew!

And thankfully nobody has added any doors yet.....still 3 and none on the roof rails!

Will rush to Motherwell tomorrow to check on health of LR and also to the hidden hiding place of my other 3 door RAV just in case the virus has spread....?

Just an enjun would do never mind a spare wan!

My mate Wollaston has an old landy and he loves it. Every year when he goes on holiday I have to break the bad news to him that nobody stole it. It is the noisiest, smelliest, draftiest, wetest, smokiest, rattlyest, boneshaking, oil leaking, unreliable, ugly monstrosity that ever turned a wheel. I don't like it.

I hope you have plenty of money, plenty of time and are not too worried about even the most basic of human comforts.

Are you shure 4 spare wheels and 1 spare engine is enough bothy?

You sure? I've been thinking about getting a RAV and the XT3 is now the only one with a spare wheel. At least according to the official RAV brochure I picked up at the weekend.... this is a real bummer :( I guess they are on the cusp of changing over as the price list is slightly different as it hints that only the T180 and XTR are missing the spare wheel. I'm not sure I can live without it, its a royal pain driving at 30mph on a spacesaver/run flat/foam job.

I've got the new brochure and I can't find where it says XT3 only. On page 28 it shows that the XT3 has a hard wheel cover but all the other models are "in addition to". On page 40 it shows that a full size spare wheel is standard on models with a 140 diesel or 2.0 VVTi. The exception is the T180 and the XTR (which is not covered in the brochure).

I think you are safe!

Cheers.

Both the XT4 and XT5 are now available without the spare wheel, so I assume that you have to order it without a wheel (or maybe you order it with!)

As I said in the run flat thread, the Bridgestone run flat on the T180 is now available in the same size as the rest of the range (i.e 225/65R17). Are Toyota going over to run flats by stealth?

I think we could all hazard a guess how this will pan out. In the near future I reckon when you order a Rav, the STANDARD model

will come with no spare, modified back door and bumper. If you want a spare, you will order the NON STANDARD model with old

style door and bumper. (and it will of course be dearer)

Anchorman, I wish you were right but ...I reckon my brochure is the most current one. Or maybe its different in different parts of the country? Maybe the genteel citizens of Slough aren't considered likely to need a spare tyre.

Here's some piccies from the brochure. I've uploaded the front to compare with yours.

Click for the larger edition on the middle picture and you will see what I mean..... ( I can't figure out how to post pics on this BB yet as the IMG thing doesn't seem to work properly in preview ).

So, for punters like me that means that the 2006 model XT4 is probably nirvana. It has got leather, foglights and a pollen filter and more important it has a spare wheel on the back. So, the question is can I retrofit the pollen filter and fogs onto a 2008 XT3? The leather is probably dire anyway after a year so I can live without that... all the other bluetooth and satnav bits on XT4 and 5 and R are done cheaper and better with third party addons (eg Tomtom, Parrot) than the factory fit, but unfortunately I have hayfever sufferers to cart around and the fogs are a necessity as I tend to drive in lots of foggy places!

The current equipment levels for the Rav can be found HERE

The spare wheel HAS been deleted from all models except the XT3 :o

You can blame the motoring magazines for this... all they ever do is complain about the "small opening"

James, the XT3 is shown as having a pollen filter... :g:

EDIT: There seems to be some errors in it... The XT-R is shown as having no cruise control!

I picked up that brochure a week last Saturday in Sheffield. Cr@p information in - cr@p information out - sorry!!!

The front fog lights are available;

My mate has a 4.3 and providing nothing has changed that definitely has a cabin filter because I changed it for him.

Good luck!

Thanks gents, I thought it was a bit strange that the brochure has the pollen filter missing for the XT3 and yet it is in fact there in the link above.

Like the Toyota tech manuals, very clear. The fogs are available so we are in business! I will no doubt be asking more dumb newbie questions later
