Rav4 C Diff

Driving home, went to put my hazard warning lights on and accidentally hit the C diff button.

I tried to switch it off and it buzzed at me, so when I got home (travelled about 3 miles) I read the manual and it is now switched off.

Just a little concerend that I may have damaged something, as I now understand its for slippy\muddy weather, not really tarmac road, and I did about 60mph with it on.

Its a Rav 4 V Reg.

Any advice - should I be worried?

Thanks in advance.

Doesn't sound if you've done any damage and I'd doubt it....even if you switch it off, it doesn't drop out right away anyway. I've seen me having to reverse a few yards before it would switch off. All it does is lock the diffs up so that all wheels rotate at the same speed whether you are going round corners or not. Because of this, if you go round corners on dry roads, its puts a greater strain on the transmission train, but its robust enough to cope with this now and again. You'd have noticed the steering stranger and maybe stiffer as a result. £ miles is nothing...and chances are that your roads there are as wet as ours up here - water everywhere and we still pay bldg water tax!!

Its healthier if you switch it on/off when wheels are in a straight so I read somewhere; and of course use on slippy roads. Again recommendation is 50mph, but the RAV transmission will take at least 250bhp+ so should handle anything you can give it.

I don't ever use it much - grassy fields now and again or on the very unusual time of snow on road. Having had my RAV 14 years, I've not used the diff lock more than a dozen times.

So relax!!

Thank you so much!!!

You're right our roads are soaked. I was just trying to put hazards on cos a tree was blocking part of the road!

Thanks again - mind well and truly rested.
