like most small cars.. the take off is usually good due to the light weight etc... not knocking them at all i just dont see why somone would buy on with the intention of adding 'performace' mods on it.

so he can rev his engine and hear the air going `phwoosh` makes you feel like your going faster ;)

whats the problem.... sorry but i dont see the point of having 15/16 year old cars... doing loads to the engine

so they can blow up ... a love my aygo .. and i think its nippy as in lower gears...

Bit of a general sweeping and uninformed statement there matey...

I simply said i dont understand the logic of buying a good cheap to run car like an Aygo built for low running costs with the mpg etc with the intention of adding performance mods to it.

Fun, curiosity, testing limits, personal choice, Aygo love  :lol2:

not everyone bought there aygo cos if its cheap running cost, i bought mine cos its quirky looks & is fun to drive, cheapness was just a bonus, power would be an extra bonus..lol.

I dont understand why people buy MR2's and then put ferrari kits on them or buy off road vehicles with no intention of taking them off road, or why people need Speakers that could fill the NEC with sound... but people do ..its their choice at the end of the day...each to their own I say :)

If it was 'informed' at me whatever that means.. you are still way off the mark. None of my cars have ever failed an MOT apart from one car where the fog light was not working correctly.

None of my engines have gone bang and all my old performace cars have NEVER broke down or failed to start. So much so that i drove my MR2 all the way to Germany... took it on the Nurburgring 6 times round and drove back without a stutter. As do many other 'old' well built sports cars i thank you very much.

In addition to that i didnt do 'loads' with the engine as the cars were damn quick to begin with. ;)

The only real beneficial reason to change your induction kit from standard is to get more COLD air into the combustion process, the aftermarket induction kits i have seen for Aygo's sit in the engine bay and as such unless you were to fabricate some sort of ducting to get cold air to it you wont notice a difference except probably a bit more induction noise when you put your foot down.

I think its a bit harsh that people are telling you not to mod your car because you should just buy something faster, many people dont understand that its not just the car but the work that you have done to make it "your" car but.....

In terms of an induction kit, the full cold air induction kit i was running on the Hyundai coupe that i was driving before it was written off today (Aygo ordered this afternoon) was getting an extra 5BHP on an original 140, so i would imagine that you would struggle to see much more that 2-3 extra ponys with an induction kit, which probably isnt worth it. I would chuch the money at ICE upgrades.

Just my opinion though!

Personally speaking i wasnt saying that you shouldnt mod a car. My point was that i couldnt see why somone would buy a car like an aygo with the intention to try and make it faster which goes against what it stands for in the first place.

Maybe im just getting old.. its quite possible..

Reasons I tuned my Smart Roadster (which was also a small economical city car like the Aygo):

1) Because I could (availability of parts)

2) Because I wanted to (each to his own)

3) Because I could afford to (parts, insurance etc.)

4) Because I wanted to have a bit of fun with others who thought that they had a 'true' sports car! ;)

5) To see the look on the above's faces when they were truly caught on the hop!

Even in it's modified state I was still returning an average of approx. 48 MPG so I was able to have fun AND do it economically.

P.S.

I AM old!

the main thing you said there was no.2... because you wanted to... :)

Each to their own indeed. With regards to the Smart Roadster.. it has a good base to begin with in the first place in terms of being low to the ground etc. ;)

Im also guessing they are RWD?

They sure are, but have traction control and a very simple launch control too! B)

Hey, Fizz,

Guess what I fitted to my Aygo this morning. :D

I had a few silicone hoses, and some alloy tubing, so I made an induction kit.

Not to increase performance, just because I it seemed like fun. Which is the reason I bought an Aygo.

I've had fast cars, ( I had a Clio V6 before my Aygo), and never intended to modify my Aygo, but I do it just for fun.

I made an exhaust back box, to make it sound beefier, last year, and fitted some bigger wheels. My car now gets more comments and praise at work, than the new super bikes we sell.

The last time I went to the Nordschliefe, I went with a Lambo Gallardo, an Aston DB9 and a couple of GT3 Porsches. And my mates were less than pleased that more people were looking at my Aygo, than their supercars.

It's all about individuality, and a sense of humour.

By the way, I now have a healthy increase in acceleration from 3k revs, and fuelling still feels ok. I will check it properly when I get a bit of spare time at work.

DJ,

I made my induction kit from parts I had left over from my racing cars.

As far as I am aware the only off the shelf kit, is the one supplied by the 107OC. It's about £70.

Mine is very similar, and would cost about £40 in parts to make one yourself. If you wanted to make one, I could take some photos, and give you some details of the bits you need, if you like.

Stuff like induction kits will take ages to appear on the market, as the manufactures need to access that the market warrants making one.

That's why I made my own exhaust, as nothing was available at the time. Their are a few on the market now, but mine is a one-off.

No problem, I'll take a few snaps at the weekend. Should have the fuelling checked by then too.

Here are the pictures I took at work todayDSC00019.jpgDSC00018.jpgDSC00017.jpgDSC00016.jpgDSC00015.jpg

This is what I have fitted so far.

The size of tubing and hose you need is 63mm (or 2.5" for you old folks). I have used a 90 degree bend from the throttle body, but I have shortened the straight part of the hose where it fits onto the throttle body, so that it brings the tube closer to the engine and clears the body( see pic 3).

I then used a 45 degree bend pipe with 120mm long straight ends. I cut a 60mm piece from one end, and used this short piece to join the filter to the second piece of hose.

The second piece of hose has a 45 degree bend and 100mm long straight ends.

The pictures show it is fairly straight forward to make a similar kit. I just used the bits I had lying around.

You could use a longer alloy tube from the throttle body and a 90 degree bend onto the filter. This is what the 107OC kit uses. But, this the sensor on the back of the airbox makes this a bit tight.

I also think that 63mm tube is a little bit excessive, and 50mm tubing and filter, with a 63 to 50mm reducing 90 degree bend onto the throttle would be slightly better for an Aygo engine.

Silicon hoses and alloy tube are available at most motor factors, or certain internet auction sites, for not a lot of money if you fancy making one yourself.

I have cable-tied the filter to the original airbox, until I get a bracket made up. I am also making a cover for the airbox out of carbon sheet. Should be done next week.

If you have any questions, just ask.

Oh, and I have given in and put a little stubby aerial on. Should reduce drag conciderably

Oh, you also need a small filter for the engine breather, ( see pic 3 ). The flange on the cam cover is 18mm.

I may use the original breather hose and fit a filter into the end of it, as the one I have fitted is a little close to the coil connection.
