The range isnt the most reliable of things to go on to be honest. I've found that I can get at least 330 miles to a tank and the fuel bar starts flashing around that point. I use the trip a odometer to count up the mileage between fill ups. Of course there are more economical ways to drive then just short journeys or whatever (I only do short journeys at weekends, which certainly helps with economy). Perhaps see how many miles yours does using the same odometer and calculate it that way.

I've never come unstuck or run out of fuel this way either.

6 litres is a bit over a gallon, you would use some of this to do the remaining 13 miles. Then, you would be on the reserve tank. Which holds a few litres.

But the computer tells you youve got 0 miles left when you hit the reserve, not when you actually run out.

Anyway, do you really think a trip computer can get it right to the exact mile?

Yeah totally agree the mileage count down is until you hit the reserve not run out completely.

I get 47MPG so with a 9 Gallon tank in theory I would be on fumes after 423 miles.

After filling up the countdown is usually at 360 odd miles. So when it hits zero I have just over a gallon left.

When it hits Zero fill up, you don't want to run it right done especially on an old car as it can suck up sediment.

These gauges are an "Indication" of fuel left and usually are a bit over cautious, there is generally a good deal of fuel left in any Toyota once the guage starts to read empty. In the motor trade you get used to driving cars with the low fuel warning lamp burning your eyeballs out

Kingo

I've found that I can go quite a way on mine reading 0! I'm not going to push it too far, but when it says the range is 0 with 3 bars of fuel left, I'm not at risk of running out of fuel I don't think...

I've done 20 miles on my Celica's fuel light on, but that was because I had no option and driving very carefully!

I've heard that Fiestas & Corsa's can easily do 30 miles minimum once the light comes on, so you should be easily able to match that.

I'd say ignore the reading and once the light comes on, you should plan to fill up no later than 28-30 miles after (that should leave a little left - 'Should' being the operative word).

I purchased a Saab .the fuel light was flashing when i picked it up,the read out of miles left to go read 20,sadly i took a wrong turn on the long drive back and hit "0",

each turn or junction was a massive call not knowing which one, will take nearer or further from a station,i reset the trip ometer when the display hit zero and when i did find fuel it was 47miles later

yeah 47 miles after "0"never been so pleased to see a BP

Jeees . Why run the tank nearly dry at all? Think of all the crap in the bottom of the tank that your sucking up. Then it`l be. "Cant understand why my car is missfiring" blah blah blah

Me i picked it up dry and was in an un known area and miles from fuel,id not drop below flashing point in any car unless an emergency

always, always keep an emergency tenner tucked away for petrol
