I new somebody had asked before but when I searched I found it was you!!!

You are right there must be somebody. Try the yellow pages and the local rag. You could also try posting under the "general" section.

Just feel that our RAv 4.1 engine would be better with a bit of fine tuning / engine tuning .

Also never really trust local dealers and their inflated rates.

Just imagined that there would be a Toyaota specialist in Gtr manchester.

I would search for a Jap car specialist. Most of them are experts on Honda/Toyota/Nissan engines and are often involved in boosting engine outputs.

The 3SFE engine outputs around 127bhp, but does wear as time goes on. I found at greater mileages, it lost power. Basic things like plugs and leads are important...but one of the Jap specialists can check the engine more thoroughly. The RAV 4.1 was designed as a fairly sporty car, and the weight is lower than many cars giving a better power to weight ratio.

Things like sticking/dragging front brakes can take the edge off the performance and with the 4.1, I found this was a problem. The calipers can become sticky and tend to drag.

I found that the higher octane petrol made a difference. Now with the turbo engine, I only put in high octane petrol. iF YOU USE SUPERMARKET PETROL ALL THE TIME, ITS CHEAPER COS ITS NOT QUITE AS GOOD - its worth mixing it with the better known brands from time to time.

So - get onto Google or a search engine and look for performance garages/ jap peformance; or try the directory. If you see a guy in the street with a tuned up jap car, ask him/her where they get it tuned.

good luck...and if you are up in Glasgow let me know and I'll introduce you to my local specialist

I should say that the 3SFE is not a particularly strong engine, and won't take a lot of modding.
