Radio Fault

Dear All,

I have a 2001 Avensis GS with Sat Nav in the boot.

Suddenly last week, the Radio/CD stopped working, but the SAT Nav is still OK.

I cannot get the Audio to turn on, and CD's will not play.

I've checked the fuses and all are fine.

Is this something I can check myself or do I need to pay a small fortune at the main dealer?

Help!

George

Is a CD stuck inside?

are the interior light working?

You can always disconnect the battrey lead for 10 mins

and see if that does a reset

are the interior light working? Yes. They work fine

Will disconnecting the Battery cause me any other problems?

The only slight issue with disconnecting the Battery is tha ECU will have to relearn your driving style. It may run a little rough to begin with but should be fine. The stereos aren't coded like other manufacturers so it's not like it will lock up or anything.

Is it just the CD that has stopped working, does the radio work or is it the full stereo? Do you have the CD changer or is it the dash mounted single slot?

Mine stopped working a while ago, the whole stereo. It was dry solder joints on the connections inside the back of the stereo. Apparenlty it's quite common on these. Luckily for me I had a mate that could sort it out for me. He would have charged £50 to anyone else. See if there are any car audio places near you that do repairs, or it might be easier to get a replacement off eBay. I've seen them go for around 60-80 quid.
