Auto Door Lock On The 4.3

If like me, you're worried about someone taking your loved one from you (or even your wife  ), there is a 'hidden' feature which will auto lock your doors for you

First things first, you have put your car into "Programming mode". This function allows you to enable/disable various system options and to retrieve information from the system. To enter programming mode you have to follow the procedure below:

1, Start of procedure

Alarm system has to be in disarmed state, and all doors closed.

2, Enter programming mode

For remote control key cars:

– Insert the key into the ignition.

– Turn the key to IG ON position 5 times (IG OFF -> ON) within 20 s.

– Final key position: IG ON, Alarm status light (LED) is on for 30 s.

For Smart Key Entry cars:

– Have the smart key inside the vehicle.

– Without pressing the clutch, press the start switch until IG ON status has been reached 5 times (IG OFF -> ON) within 20 s.

– Final start switch status: IG ON, Alarm status light (LED) is on for 30 s.

Note:

– If IG OFF-> ON is operated more than 5 times, you have to withdraw the key from the ignition and repeat the above procedure.

3, Select the programming mode

Within 30 sec, select the programming mode by performing 2 door open/close operations (counting the number of closures).

4, Confirmation of programming mode

Turn the key or press the start switch to reach the OFF position, (IG ON -> OFF) to enter selected programming mode.

Note: The selection is confirmed by hazard lights flashing and the buzzer beeping the same number of times as the above number of door open/close operations.

5, Modify the settings

1) Open and close the door two times within 30s (LED will turn ON)

Then again open and close the door Twice, automatic door locks will now be ON (To turn off automatic door locks you would open and close Once at this point).

2) Turn the key (IG OFF > ON > OFF).

The LED will turn OFF and the hazard lamps turn ON the same number of times as the door open/close operations.

I've gained the above information from the Toyota tech site, so if doesn't work or make sense don't blame me!!

Nice find Duncs

Can you provide a link or be more specific about where you found it?

I've tried this procedure on several occasions in the past and have not been successful.

If anybody does get it to work, please let us know what the knack is.

(I think it's in the VSS manual on techdoc isn't it Duncs?)

Cheers

Thanks anchorman!

I found it on the Toyota-tech site when I searched under 'Vehicle security system'. I can't seem to work out how I link to the page (I'm getting an error message)

Is there any chance you could post the link for me?

I'm also having a problem with getting the car into "Programming mode", it must be something to do with the push button start!

It's probably easier for those with a 'proper' key :D

Yeah, I'd be interested if anybody with a "proper" key can achieve it. I'm wondering if the problem is you can't go between the "proper" key equivalent of "ACC" and "IG" with the push button, but have to go through the equivalent of "OFF" every time.

It seems to come under the "Customise Parameters" section for which I think you need the Toyota Hardware or equivelent. I wonder if it is only possible to enter the programming mode after initialisation with the hardware?

I've tried it on my XTR with 'proper key' and had no luck either.

Thanks for the info Kinetic ............and that looks like your first post, so here's a welcome to TOC as well. :D

Although the VSS instructions are on the techdoc site, I get the feeling that our UK models have a subtly different security system. The door locking with ignition is not listed as a programmable option in the factory manual and for example, the interior sensors are disabled in a different way than that described in the VSS instructions. Oh well, I can feel a simple transistor circuit coming on................... :D
