New Owner - New Battery

Good Morning.

Having just purchased my first Toyota (2001 Avensis 2.0 SR), I was obliged to call out the AA on the weekend as I was unable to restart the car after going on a run to help recharge the Battery, which seemed to have struggled a bit to turn the engine over.

I purchased a replacement from Halfords (Model HB075). I removed the old Battery, fitted the new one in place and having cleaned up the connectors attempted to fit them to the new Battery, but found that I could not tighten the connecter on the positive terminal sufficiently to stop it moving around! It looks like the diameter of the positive terminal on the old battery is larger than on the the negative side. However the terminals on the new battery appear to be of the same diameter and smaller than the old positive one. I assume I need to replace the terminal connectors with new ones which I assume I can obtain from Halfords, or do I need to use the original presumably Toyota Originals??.

A LITTLE EDIT REQUIRED HERE, SO:-

WHOOPS silly me - I had forgotten that most if not all cars have a larger positive terminal than negative! The connector had in fact been bent and damaged hence the inability to tighten it properly - problem now resolved and battery connected OK now! Any comments re below would still be appreciated!

Having read other topics concerning problems with lost remotes, horrendous re-programming costs etc, could someone please advise on the following:

1. I have of course left the new battery disconnected since last night whilst trying to resolve the connection issue - could this cause me any problem with regard to the alarm / immobiliser or remote?

2. I was only given one black remote/key when I bought the car, is this a master key and am I able to obtain a second key for the car without incurring a huge expense??

Thank you for any information you may have!
