I ended up bying a new key from Toyota. Unfortunately it wouldn't work. The Toyota garage in Bromham Bedfordshire were very helpfull and eventually found that both door interior light switches had been disconnected an some stage. I'ne no clue when this could have happened as I've owned the car from new. The added bonus was that the lights on warning beeper started working again so no more flat batteries.
