Hi guys,

My AE92 seems to be suffering from a stick / mechanical gear shifts. Feels very mechanical when I change gears, and this is especially evident when I'm shifting at 7000+ rpm !!

Any suggestions on what could be wrong? Will a simple gearbox oil change solve the issue?

Cheers guys !

Yeah probs the oil. Could also be a loose linkage?

Whats the millege on it?

Probably caused by worn syncromesh rings. I had this on the gearbox on my 4A-GZE and found that changing to Redline MT90 helped for a while. Eventually I had the gearbox re-built and it's been fine ever since.

sounds like the synchromesh is worn as this is the component that acts as a brake to the other gears when shifting, if its worn then its trying

to select a gear that is still rotating too fast, surely as its not working properly then changing at 7000rpm isn't occuring still :rolleyes:

Thanks for your feedback ! How much would it cost to replace the synchromesh ? The current mileage is 118,000, I do a lot of mileage in this car as I drive it from London to Bristol back and forth every week. Would it be worth replacing the whole gearbox in the long run? Thanks again guys.
