Buying A Spare Wheel For A 4.3

Simple solution Dave and all you other spare tyre buyers

Just buy the XT3/XT5 and not have the worry about it...or even go back to the 4.2 model...Non of this meddling and fiddling about with spare tyres in yea boot....Least I'm safe in the knowledge of going on a long journey and having the large boot free from any large black tyres lurking in there, and mine safely stored in it's own casing on the rear door...

:lol: now how did I know you were going to say that ? Remember the only model now available with the spare

still hanging from the back door is the XT-3. So when you get round to buying your 4.3, we will be resurrecting this

thread :P :P

Been pondering this since buying my new Rav. Dont mind the repair kit for day to day stuff but the frequent

journeys down south (especially the annual jaunt to the channel islands) does bother me a bit. Thought about

getting a spare and throwing it in the boot.

My current car has a tube of gunk instead of a spare and after wrecking 3 tyres in a month, none of which could be repaired, I picked up a spare on eBay. As we take most of our holidays in NW Scotland it's reassuring to have a 'proper' wheel in the boot.

I've now acquired a spare set of 4.3 wheels and tyres in anticipation of getting my RAV (due to collect an XT-R D-4D on Saturday). I'll be keeping one and putting the rest on eBay, so watch this space.

This is my first post so if I've mastered the technology I'll be doing more, especially when I'm officially a Toyota owner!

And if anybody's interested, the wheel was £75 plus VAT. The tyre was £84.90 plus vat, shipping was free.

Is that a 225/65/R17 then? The cheapest I seem to be able to find in that spec is about £112. I have seen 225/65/16 for about 80ish, but not 17's.

Well decided to take the plunge and hit the plastic. My spare wheel arrived today, total price £188 delivered free.

The alloy isn't the same, as you would expect, but it is similar and it will only get used as a spare. And it was about

£260 less than the Toyota one. The tyre is a bridgestone, I will post a photo at the weekend for comparison. ;)

PS, asked the company that supplied it if they would give me a discount for mentioning them on this thread. They

said no, so I wont be naming them :P :P So If thinking of buying one yourself, I'll tell you who they are by PM.

That sounds like a good price with the alloy as well. Was there a seperate price for just the tyre?

What is the going rate for 4.3 tyres please anyone. From checking a couple of online tyre places, looks like it's about 120-140 depending on the make.

edit: Just found this place ( http://www.event-tyres.co.uk ) doing Bridgestones for £111 each and you get a 5% discount if you buy 4 tyres in one pop. Seems very competetive to me.

Sorry, arrived late on this thread.A spare alloy with Geolander tyre from a Toyota main agent costs 345.00 pounds and that includes a small discount! I know I bought one in Feb 2007 when I picked up my new XT-R.Looks a sight in the boot but what price peace of mind.

@jock1

I have to say that isn't such a pain in the .ss carrying that tyre in the boot! I went on a trip last week-end and I have to say I was impressed! I had two big suitcases (one for us and one for the little one, hehehe, half of it was full of diapers), plus the baby buggy. All in the trunk. All I can say is that now I realised how big the boot is!...

  • 10 months later...

I Thought I would revive this thread for the benefit of new members contemplating buying a spare wheel. plus I've

finally got around to buying a PVC cover. As you can see from the photos, you can have a full size spare wheel in

your boot and you will only lose about 20% of your storage area. Just remember, put it at the left hand side, this

means you can still drop the small right side seat back for carrying bigger stuff, and you could use that side of the

boot cover. And most importantly, you must tether it to one of your cargo hooks, I used a ratchet strap (the red

thing)
