How Many Of Rav Owners Had A Flat Tyre With Their 5 Doors

Because in many posts we were talking about getting a spare tyre at RAVs without the one on the backdoor, and facing the fact that Toyota starts to "eliminate" the spare wheel (only the base model have one), let's see who was misfortuned to have a flat-tyre and had to use the Tyre Repair Kit that's on our cars.

Thinking of that, i said to myself either Toyota knows something (flat tyres are not really often, and the TRK is sufficient to solve your problems), either they have a lot of courage to loose the spare wheel!:)

So, shoot!

Have used the TRK on the wife's 206CC and it's rubbish...yea right it sorts the issue out but knackrs up the inside of the trye and no fitter will touch the trye after using the stuff so had to replace whole tyre in the end...and the fact the RAC had put some blue sealant gunk thing in there that no machine or hammering could get out....

I will also ways prefere to have the spare knowing if I did get a blow out I could replace it...(wife likes the 206CC as it's fun in the sun and the roof still amazes me every time)

Hi Chatman - its funny that. Our two cars are Rav4.3 and 206CC. Both Black. The roof is great, and excellent for the summer. The CC was mine till I traded her smart car in on the Rav and she inherited the convertible. She didnt seem to mind :)

So now both our cars have no spare and some gunk. I think at least a spare from a scrapyard is the way to go for the Rav and chuck it in the boot. I wonder if the holes are standard spacing, etc or special to the Rav/Toyota. Does anyone know?

Hi All,

Surely by now someone has had to use the TRK. If not it would appear the bods at toyota have made the right call

You now have permission to blame me directly for the kiss of death!!!

OK. Lets put it another way. How many punctures have you ever had in your driving life. For me, I can only remember having 3, in 22 years of driving. So yes, they don't occur very often. For me, at least.

I've had perhaps 6 or 7 in 30 odd years :( fancied an XTR originally, but I tow a caravan and there's no way I 'd rely on a TRK so got an XT4 instead so I'd got a proper spare.

I've had one slow puncture with mine and because it was close to the edge of the trad it had to go away for a special repair (about £20 I think). I don't particularly like the idea of lugging that very expensive ornament around and will use it with one new tyre when I need some for the front.

I think it might have been Druand that once said that carrying a spare was worth it when one severe puncture in the middle of nowhere would otherwise be hellish inconvenient. It seems a reasonable argument.

Oh and no, I don't rotate my tyres if anyone was wondering!

:g: :g: :g: :g:

I'm sure when I drive along the road my tyres ROTATE as the vehicle moves...

Funny that - I've always noticed that with every one of my fleet, a flat tyre is only flat at the bottom!

Flat tyres this year -

Humber hawk = 1

Jaguar XJS = 1

Landrover = 2 - tyres were perished and the wheels werny much better - led to 4 new wheels and tyres

RAV 4.1 - 1 in 2007 ; 6 in its lifetime

Punto - 1 in 2008; 2 in 2007; 1 in 2005 and the cars only done 22k miles

Car transporter trailer - 2 in 2007 then 4 new wheels and tyres for extra weight tonnage

Minibus = 0

2nd RAV = 0

Caravan = 0 but 4 new wheels and tyres to cope with extra weight

Daughters Peugeot 307 - 3 (high mileage)

Sons Clio - 2 caused by pothole at the same time.

In 2002 in Australia we had a blow out on the hired motorhome - Bridgestone tyre with a special size. Changed wheel and that blew out too!! Eventually found the front offside brake was dragging and the wheel was heating up so much, the valve melted and shot out!!! Had to fill tyre up with gunge then drive slowly for 150+ miles to get van swapped. Beware of naff motorhome hire companies in Ozland!! Name of the gunge? Blue Circle????

Bothy that is a disaster story.

You should try solid tyres from stacker trucks.

Any chance of finding that pigeon a perch? It has been hovering there for ages.

So thats the pubs shut then? Or the 10.32 was late in?

I get grants to re-use tyres so I'm looking for ways to recycle another 100 tonnes!

An the pigeons no a pigeon. Its a dove. Its wot i use for the websites I used to create. I'll get a big pictur o the landrover fur it tae sit oan - altho the doves roon here all ***** on top of the Fiat punto for some reason. Cultured probably. They don't dare land on the caravan floodlamps - can be up to 600v up top. The landrover they think is not worth the risk, and piddling on the RAV will re-introduce the crossbow to the area. The squirrels keep an eye on the (Humber) Hawk for me and the XJS sits underneath a 400W halide floodlamp so they'll be blinded.

Pigeon wouldn't look right on the LR - it looks too much like upholstry. Pigeon or Dove or Pheasant if it comes to that. They all make a similar noise when they bounce off the front of the train. Not got any peeps yet though ^_^

PS not been out of the house today. RAV hasn't turned a wheel since Thursday.

Ah - forgot - trains are all off due to Easter and so ye flew to the O2.

An its a bleedin dove. No a pigun. A pheasant is wots found in areas outside of London, and disnae enjoy the bonuses from their loss making banks that the rest of us pay for.

Must admit I went by bus because a local company was offering a trip with accommodation that was good value. Trains and Bank Hols do not go well together but nobody wants them to break down and nobody wants them to stop working while the tracks are renewed. Have to invent some nuclear hover trains!

By the way there were loads of "doves" in Trafalger Square but the were kindly provided with perches.

Got to go now. A mate is coming with his Rover 75 with no windscreen washers for me to fix.
