Bubbling Alloys

My Celica is a 2002 model with the 17" alloys. The problem I have is that all 5 alloys (full alloy spare) are bubbling, plus do have some curb scuffs on them.

I know it's a known problem, but where is a good place to get them refurbished and what would be an expected price?

Well it's not cheap. The Fondmetal alloys have a poor reputation for going out of shape as well as corroding. In your situation, I would buy a set of after market Wheels, there are some bargains to be had this time of year as many Alloy Wheel Specialists have Clearance Sales.

If you do look to buy new 17's, the spec. you need are as follows:

PCD..5 x 100

Offset...35 to 38

Width...7" or 7.5"

Tyre Size...205/45/17 or 215/45/17

Tyre Brand...Toyo T1R and Good Year Eagle F1 are both very popular on the Gen 7.

HTH.

I did get a quote for £80 per wheel. That's full sandblasting, scruff filling, painting/powder coat(any colour)& finish. So looking at £400.

I know buying new looks and sounds good, but I'm also thinking about the insurance increase after I get them!

Mind you, there are some very nice looking rims out there!

cheers for the info

£400 to get them refurbished... thats madness. you can get stronger, better looking after market ones with £500 and when you declare them to your insurance they will either increase the premium by £10-15, and in some cases not at all.

Alternatively you may be able to get genuine toyota ones for that price from the guy here selling toyota parts. (but i forget his name!)

My big problems is needing 5 rims though. I know you can buy sets of 4, but is it easy to buy just 1?

Plus I've got 2 fairly new tyres on the back, which I wouldn't want to lose. I know I could have them taken off, but have nowhere to store them.

Then I have another problem! What style & colour to get! I've got a Blue coloured Sports & Dynamic pack Celica, so what would look good?

Decisions, decisions!

They don't look too bad, perhaps a silver set would go better with the Blue.

Thanks for that Stu306.

I've decided to go with these:

What do you think? £435 (rims, tyres & new locking nuts)

Thanks for the pic again Stu306. I shall be ordering them very soon! (I'll make sure to take a picture and post it).

Just need to sort out selling my old ones, on eBay or something.

I'm not going to comment as regards the price as I don't want to be held responsible for you putting a noose around your neck and jumping off a chair.

They're on sale at the moment, hence the cheap price.

Look similar to my team dynamics, which i paid nearly twice the price for!

I like your brakes Aquazi! They do look similar.

As I don't intend to put bodykits on, major engine modding or takin my car to shows I don't need top class rims.

Right my new rims & tyres arrive on Tuesday, so I'll fit those next weekend. After a little bit I'll tell you how the Federal tyre handle.

I drive from Maidstone to Croydon everyday, doing normal and hard driving throught the journey. so I'll give them a good test for everyone.
