I'm in need of a small wiper for my front window by a cople of inches for my sunstrip :P

Posted

WHY???

I have a visor strip too (semi-transparent),

but I stuck it on the INSIDE of the windscreen...

So no problems with the wiper possibly peeling it off.

On my Nissan 100NX I had lettering on the OUTSIDE, with

both wipers going over them and never had any problems either..

If you get a smaller wiper you not oly loose height, you

also loose width on the passenger side of the windscreen.

And the "bottom" of the wiped part also gets up higher...

Its illegal for your front windscreen wiper to touch your sunstrip. My sun strip attaches only to the outside of the car

Didn't know that. Must be some Brittish legislation,

as I've never even heard of anything like that...

I run a deep sunstrip on my Aygo.

I thought it would cause problems with wiper interference, but it hasn't even tried to lift it off.

With regards to the legal side of things, it is only going to be a problem at M.O.T. stage. And as this is three years down the line, I will worry about it then.

By then the sunstrip will be scratched anyway so will need replacing. Oh, and I will be trading it for a new Aygo anyway in three years. I just hope they do a pearl white or orange one by then like they do elsewhere in Europe

Yeah the UK have all these regulations on what your car is not meant to have. I may just stick to clear virnal stickers at the top on my windscreen.

If the front wiper touches the sunstrip, you can be pulled over by the police and fined and be told to take it off there and then. and even i your wiper doesn't touch the sunstrip you can still be "hunted" by the traffic cops as they like to say that it restricts your vision on the road.

I'm into the cruise seen, so I know exactly what the police are like and what they pull for.

The traffic police pull you over "here" if your alloys look "dodgy" aka too nice....

Ah, now I understand. Our Southern neighbours in Belgium CAN have a sun strip,

but it may not come down more than the line where the visors touch the

windscreen when you put them fully forward as this mght obscure vision.

Seems someone forgot that if you put the visors vertical some

people can only see 3' or so in front of their car and that IS legal...

The strip on my Aygo is actually a band of 35%-ish tinting film.

Handy at the overhead traffic lights, as I can still see them...

Yes, I know there are some bubbles in the film: it had only been on for 10 minutes here. 90% is gone now

If a cop were VERY strict I could be fined, since you're

not allowed to put ANYTHING on your front windows and

windshield "that may hinder the drivers view outside",

even a TomTom!!!

But I've never had any problems, not with the Aygo, not with my Escort

and not even with the 100NX, which DID look a lot sportier than the Aygo does...

10cm is allost nothing: with the rake of the windscreen and the thickness of

the headliner you probably don't even get below the level of the headliners...

I'd have to measure, but I believe mine is 19cm in the middle and 22cm at

the A-pillars. I had to cut out a square to accomodate for the mirror-mount.

if the wipers touch the sunstrip it WONT pass the mot...

so stick it to the inside, i did on my old ka and it passed fine! have it about as deep as where ure sun visors sit when theyre down and u cant go wrong!
