Got a pboblem with 2003 Toyota Avensis 1.8 B Automatic:

After stopping the engin cannot turn ignition key to „LOCK“ position (cannot remove the key and set immobiliser). All other things seems to be normal (engin starting and etc).

Can anybody give some advice?

try pushing the key in slightly to get it to the lock position.

Also try moving the steering wheel, as sometimes the steering lock mechanism can cause it to be difficult.

The automatics have an extra fail safe on the key lock. Not sure what its for or why it is locked but the way to stop it is to take the lower steering column cover off. Look at the left side if the ignition barrel for the locking solenoid (plastic box). Follow the wire back to the connector and disconnect it. You should now be able to take your key out.

Prob the ingition barrel at fault (think its pretty common)

Also the car is in 'Park' isnt it when you try and remove the keys?

Mart.

Certainly in my case the locking solenoid is being energised even though the gear selector is in the park position. Maybe there is a switch that tells the ECU that the gearbix is in parked.
