Handbrake - Is This Normal?

Our driveway has a slight slope towards the garage, and I've found that when I drive onto the drive, brake to a stop with the footbrake and then put the handbrake on, the car seems to roll forwards a couple of inches before coming to a stop. Is this normal?

Cheers,

Martyn

Yes.

When you're on the footbrake the front wheels are mostly holding the car in position and the suspension is compressed; the wheels are pushing the car back to stop it rolling. When you switch to the handbrake you're using the rears to hold it, and as you release the footbrake the front suspension relaxes and moves forward slightly giving you the feeling that the car has rolled a few inches.
