St162 Warning Lights

Hi all,

I bought a ST162 (3S-GE engine) a few years back, didn't get a user manual together with the car... so here are my queries.

Where is the low fuel warning light located? Maybe I don't even drive till the fuel is low, but I've driven until the gauge is hovering on the "E" and still no warning lights.

And what do the rear lamps warning light (I think thats what it is) represent? It is lit and stayed on, I've changed the bulbs but its no good... I've check the wiring and can't find anything out of the ordinary. Furthermore, now I get the low Battery warning light up as well, and whenever I put on the indicators, the Battery voltage drops right down. What could be this problem, is it even a rear lamps warning light?

Thanks in advance.

fuel warning light is located under the rev counter closest to the steering collum but on right hand side of steering wheel.

The problem with the lights may be the earth wire in the drivers side foot well on the pillow as i had that problem.

hope this helps

Thanks mate, will go have another look.

Couldnt find any dodgy wiring down there when I first looked (in the dark, after I managed to get my car home after a long day in the office)

I have a ST162 and the petrol warning light comes on really really late, you have to be within 10 miles of a petrol station, not a problem if you're in the UK but here in Denmark they dont seem to believe in petrol stations out of town or on the motorway...I'd say at a guess your alternator is either on the way out or poorly connected if the voltage is showing a drop as you drive and use the electrics..

And i can see you are in Australia so if you live in a 'bush' or the 'backout' you will have to take a 500 gallon extra jerrycan everywhere just in case.

hahaha, good to know I have about 10miles before I run dry. hmmm, I'll probably carry a jerry-can just in case the light is malfunctioning. Lucky I don't live in the outback huh.

I'll be going to Queensland for a few week. guess I'll only look at my car when I get back.

In the meantime I've taken to use my old '82 JDM Celica GT-Rally that I've given to my youngest sister to get around town this past weekend.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just an update...

I've spent the last 2 weekends checking and replacing every single light bulb in the car... only ones now are the ones behind the air control unit.

Also found out that the alternator isn't working and just getting around 8V from it with the car running.

Maybe, just maybe this is the problem... that the Battery not charging and the sensors not getting enough "juice"

Guess I'll only be able to find out when I come back from Brisbane next month.

If anyone else has any other suggestions, it'll be greatly appreciated!

I hate to repeat post but thought ppl out there might wanna know.

Got frustrated and wanted to fix the car before I left for Brisbane.

The problem is with the regulator on the alternator. I got a quote of AUD145 to replace the regulator with no guarantees of whether it'll completely fix my problem (this is at an auto-electrician place).

Got more quotes for a brand new alternator for AUD297 being the lowest... and after I fixed that it. No more Battery warning light, no more rear warning lights.

Car runs beaut now! Pity I can't drive it till early April.
