Forgive me for being a dumb-***** but I just got my new Rav4 this week and I never had a 6th gear before so the question is, at what speed can you change from 5th to 6th?

I my Celica it can do 6th at 40-45, easily from 50. The easiest answer is if you put it in 6th and it's below 2000revs, put it in 5th. Then adjust accordingly. Theres not a whole lot of difference between 5th & 6th at lower speeds anyway, once you hit the high speeds 6th will show. Well that's what I've found anyway.

welcome to this homely abode of nutters and other wayward lost souls

6th speed?

If its your car, slam it into 6th at whatever speed you want. The car will tell you if its worth it!

Get it in there as soon as you can without labouring the engine, you will know if it's in the wrong gear!

I change to sixth gear at about 130 km/h, that's about 80 miles/hour. And that happens when I'm on open road, on highway, etc, when I'm cruising. If I have to "feel" the engine (in take-overs or so), i preffer the fifth gear.
