Just found some mintex front discs and pads on eBay, £97 for the lot, delivered. seems very very cheap, and considering their probably the most important part on the car im always a bit cautious (you get what you pay for!) so i guess what im askin is;

A ) Anyone bought these?

B ) Anyone use mintex?

C ) Are the front discs 255mm?

D ) Any alternatives?

Will your insurance pay out if they see non standard braking parts on the car? I wouldn't buy any braking parts of e bay, even if they were free, they could have the right brand marked on them but could just be some crap from china, that craic is going on with tyres, stamped goodyear or such like but just rubbish, fall apart on you going down the motorway. Person i know put spurious pads in his jeep before, friction material just separates from backing plate on the first test run,he said he nearly had a heart attack, lucky he wasnt doing 70 on the duel carriage way i think,he would never go near cheap pads again. If it were me id buy my braking parts from the dealer or reputable motor factor at the minimum, if they sell you something dangerous you will know who to go back to.

I got mine off eBay - no problem (just told them what make and model my car was and they told me what I needed - also checkout mintex website (it's a UK company))

Toyota wanted £200 for just 4 pads - I manged to get pads and dics for that price all around inc fitting.

Driving wise the pads are exaclty the same as Toyota but they create less dust.

Regarding the insurance it doesn't matter unless your getting performance pads/discs ie drilled etc - you don't need to tell them that you have changed the tyres/wipers/oil filter etc to a different brand on your car do you?

The brakes are tested and Mintex has been around for years so i'm sure you are fine (they come boxed) ....

Around 11k on mine with mainly motorways and not a problem even at braking from the higher ends to a stop ....

No you wouldn't have to tell them bout changing tyres etc on a car but i did hear a story about a man who had put the the wrong speed rated tyre on his car by accident, had a crash and the insurance company would not pay out because of it. The fella prob never went above 60 and the tyre could have been rated for i dont know like 100mph but the still wouldn't pay out,any excuse not to pay as they say. If the pad and discs are genuine and good quality fine, but id still prefer to pay the difference and have the genuine parts and know if they go wrong i can sue a proper company rather than just some fly by night on eBay. I also had a mate who put spurious suspension bushes in the back of his mondeo, 2 weeks they lasted and then he had to put the genuine ford one's in,as they say you get what you pay for in this world.

i've just bought the front & rear mintex sets from e-bay, great price, great seller.

not fitted them yet, but as for them possibly being fake on eBay, the boxes they came in were security tagged with hologram stickers and hadn't been tampered!

i thought front discs were 275?

i'll post my thoughts once i've fitted them.

Mintex are a good brand, quite a few members of the 100nxc fitted them and raved.

Personally I always found standard discs with EBC greenstuff pads to work just as well.

Yea sure their prob grand but you know when you go into the parts department at toyota, have you ever seen the ad with a fake denso sticker and a real one, there not that dissimilar and to the untrained eye(like mine) i wouldn't know the fake one if i bought a set of brake pads,id prob know when i drove down the road though! When it comes to something like safety ill always pay the extra for the manufactures parts cause when it comes to eBay,as iv found out in the past you pay you money and you take your chances. Just my opinion lads, you prob got a great deal,in fact hope you did. And i dont want to sound like a spokesman for Toyota's parts department cause they are expensive compare to other cars iv owned and iv had to replace bits since i got my car so iv been shocked by their prices more than once unfortunately
