I have a 3rd gen surf..and it has a centre diff so you CAN use the 4wd on tarmac...Quite useful I find in the wet!

Why do you need 4wd on tarmac, just wears out the tyres quicker.

hello, not been on for a while.....can anyone tell me how i can tell if i have a 3rd gen surf

A KZN-185 is a third gen :) Although I am not sure if all of them have the centre diff, The ones with multi mode 4wd definitely do!

It is also well worth using in the wet/ice, and certainly is kinder on rubber them spinning up the back wheels when you are trying to pull out of a T junction!
