It looks like my clutch is on its way out...the cars seemed very lifeless lately and has been over revving quite a bit so im guessing its the clutch? how much am i looking at? anything else i should consider?

p.s its a 1998 avensis gls 1.8...

also could there be any link between this and the really bad mpg ive been getting lately?

all your help is really appreciated guys :(

The part is around £100 (cover/friction plate/thrust bearing)

labour is going to be 4 hours (chargeable) expect to pay £300-£350 in total. Significantly more at a dealer!

A definite is to change the transmission fluid at the same time (+£20 approx)

Personally I would change both transmission Driveshaft seals These are £15-£18 each - only available from Mr T.

These are very delicate and are now quite old on your car. They might be damaged as the driveshafts have to be removed to get at the clutch. If they are, and start leaking in a month or so as a result of being disturbed then you will have to pay again.

A slipping clutch will seriously affect MPG. If you've been driving hard like this, there is a chance that the flywheel may be scored. More expense!
