well Mr T have kept the rav as they are going to replace the turbo under the warranty.........prob was we were due to go to brum last night as its me OH's dad's 60th birthday. We have missed that cos Mr T dont have a courtesy car for us :(

so now we have to wait till Monday for further news, in the meantime we have no food in the house (cos I was gonna go shopping on Monday) and we have no car to go shopping. so we're a bit stuffed at the mo :(

Latest update:-

Just spoke to Mr T and the warranty company want to know the ins and outs of why Mr T feels the turbo needs replacing, and isnt prepared to accept Mr T's diagnostics, wanting all the printouts etc instead!! Cos its a big job and an expensive one too, methink the warranty company are trying to get out of this one. Like I said to Mr T if the warranty company dont want to honour their warranties why issue them in the first place. I told Mr T that I KNOW the warranty covers the turbo...its says so in black n white, and the turbo (which is the original) has covered more than 90,000 miles so has more than given it all in its lifetime!

I'm a really, really not happy now...I explained that we missed my OH's dad's 60th birthday party cos we couldnt get there, i have had to put off my work today, cos I a self-employed and need the car to get to my Clients, so if I can't get to them I will lose their business! I have a house to view today, with a view to renting it, which I cant get to without transport, so may well miss out on, and my OH is back to work tomorrow, and he works 8 miles away for which there is no public transport he can catch at 6am! If he doesnt go in, he will lose a payrise he is due and possible his job too (don't ask...too complicated grrrr). So all in all Mr T has had our Rav since 11am on Friday and we are no further forward cos Mr W is spitting the dummy and, it seems to me, doesnt wanna honour their end of the bargain :(

Remind me again how Toyota got their reputation for reliability?

A warranty company, if thats a different co to Toyota (I assume from what you say) is akin to an insurance company. Legalised gamblers who don't like losing!!

AXA breakdown cover says that it gives me a 'get you home' cover on its policy, yet when I had to use it, I had to pay £404 up front, then go thru the hassle of claiming it back. I now have the cheque (which most places no longer accept) and the hassle of sticking it in the bank, waiting for it to clear, then pay the credit card co.

Legal & General House insurance refused to pay a laptop breakage claim, cos my version was slightly different from 1 conversation to the 2nd. It cost me £224 to repair, and I got household cover on renewal for cheaper than L&Gs. Directline took 6 weeks to pay up for my 89 year old fathers broken hearing aid which had been dropped n stood on - and it wasn't hassle free either!

So all these guys hope that you will go away and not trouble them, by just paying the repair yersel. By sharing the companies names, you can embarrass their PR and sales department, and annoy them by writing into the motoring press (email is so cheap and can hit so many folk!!).

Its really up to the garage to argue the toss as their diagnosis is at question - ask them for a temporary car for the time it takes them to fix the problem...and email the warranty company saying you have written to the Trading Standards folk and the FSA about this hassle.

Just waiting for the thick snow to fall!

its used approved toyota warranty peeps.

after kicking up a fuss with the branch of marsh toyota that we originally bought the rav from, we got a call from the business manager who got it sorted and we now have a lil red tomato sat on the drive and the rav booked in for the new turbo to be fitted on weds ;)

You might not like me for this Pinky but I would want all that info before coughing up. The code is for overboost and there are several other options that could be at fault - only the vacuum unit and variable rate nozzles could cause the turbo to overboost. Now if I were in the very cozy position of spending warranty money then I would simply replace everything I indicated above and that would 99% cure it. A Toyota garage has recently left me very sceptical having wanted to remove a sump that wasn't leaking along with 18 hours labour. These people need checking if they'll do tricks like that. In that case it would be TGB paying for an unnecessary job.

These insurance warranties are invariably a con - they make big money at it but I would want to know what your garage has done to diagnose the turbo if I were in their (the insurance Co) shoes.

To be fair to Toyota used car warranty, they "Normally" offer an excellent service and send out engineers to inspect a vehicle if a diagnosis or costs are at odds with the dealer. They cover most items a new car warranty would cover, not like the mickie mouse companies who take yer money and then say, sorry mate, not covered, Grrrr. Hope you get sorted soon

Silly - yer chance tae rip the Yaris tae bits tae see if it falls apart! What revs does the engine do before the oil spurts out the radiator cap???

dunno but my OH redlined it in second gear today doing 52mph..........redlines at 6500rpm, and he pushed it further.

give it its due for a lil 1 litre engine its pretty nippy, just the brakes are soooooooooooo sensitive you only gotta sniff n the yaris stops lol

plus ya cant see the bonnet at all and the back window is so small its like looking through a transparent postage stamp hehe :)

Shame on him!!

That is no way to treat a Yaris......even if it isn't yours.

I am not suprised that your RAV turbo has passed away if it has been abused by redlining and above like the Yaris

The brakes on the Yaris certainly work well

we have never abused the rav...the turbo was on its way out when we bought it by the looks of it..the rav is the 6th car with a turbo we have owned (along with renault 21 turbo, renault 5 gt turbo, impreza, supra twin turbo and smart forfour brabus) and I am happy to say we have never had to replace a turbo cos we know how to look after them :)

all i am saying is this yaris is a cheap form of motoring which we are not accustomed to lol, and as its a courtesy car needs to be threashed within an inch of its life lol

if we dont break it i will gladly take it back to Mr T and say what a nice little car it is.

But you are quite willing to abuse the Yaris.................I am sure that the dealer would not be pleased to hear that you are thrashing it within an inch of its life.

You should treat a courtesy car with more respect after all someone else will eventually end up with that car and the potential problems caused by your abuse.

Maybe it was someone like you who abused your RAV in its earlier life that resulted in the demise of the turbo and the problem that you have now.

Shame on you..............all cars should be treated with respect........................particularly those that do not belong to you.

Here's me thinking that the modern ecu system has a rev limitation control within its capacity!

Talking about treating cars with respect - you should direct yer comments at the dealers!!!!

I was passed on a dual carriageway by a driver in a brand new RAV sporting trade plates who MUST have been thrashing the hell out of the engine and car. A brand new car. Not yet delivered to the owner. Not a 2nd hand Yaris support car which will be driven by dozens of drivers. A new car.

If thats what the dealer does to a RAV, what on earth do they do with a Yaris??? Drive it off the top level transporter to save unloading time?? get real!! Dealers are the worlds worst - if its not the mechanics its the sales reps.

So we can sympathise with the new owner of a black 5 door RAV who is about to receive his thrashed out 08 plated heap of iron. If I'd the choice of the Yaris or the trashed out RAV (£20,000 worth) I'd take neither and look for something I know hasn't been a hire drive/self drive car or abused by a dealer. And theres not so many Toyota dealers in Lanarkshire!

couldnt agree with you more Bothy......my smart forfour brabus was an ex demo....probably was thrashed to within an inch of its life BEFORE i bought it, but that didnt stop me buying it, or enjoying it afterwards.

I will however, take back what i said about the Yaris.....despite it being cheap and noisy, and not at all suitable for carrying 4 people, now i have got used to driving it, i have to admit, its FUUUUUUUUUUUN....take out the back seats, drop a 2.5 V6 lump in the back (i know lots of design mods and uprated everythings) and it could be awesome, even a 1.5 turbo engine would make it a pretty wicked road car ;)

Warranty company will be dead chuffed with the dealer. Never mind you might get about 75% new car and in any case its about time the fat cat insurance Co got a taste of his own medicine.

I had a 4.3 demo before I got mine. It was dead rough compared to mine - not nice to drive at all. Maybe it had the dealer treatment!!!
