I once saw this arrangement in a BMW. The picture was quite good but in that case the picture would go off if the car was moved (for obvious reasons). You could get the normal terrestrial channels. What will happen when analogue is lost this year? Will they receive digital or will it become junk??

on my kenwoods i can connect a "Digital TV Tuner Unit (DVB-T)" but i don't have it so can't tell you any thing about it. as anchorman writes make sure you got an dvb-t... otherwise you will have wasted your money the moment they pull the analog plug...

Have thought about this on my Verso as it has headrest mounted screens, and can be fed in through the extra phono sockets in the centre console.

The place to go is

http://www.in-car-stuff.com/.

They do also Diversity antennas which should get over the fading effects in a moving vehicle.

It looks a comprehensive unit, but I'm not certain it supports digital TV, which as stated earlier, would make it unusable for TV in a few years. If you want to use it after "switch over", look for something that says "digital TV" or DVB-T. Suppose you could contact them and ask.

Technophobes look away now ;) :-

There are some aspects of the digital transmission system (COFDM - Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex - don't ask ), which have been designed to overcome some of the problems with mobile reception, e.g. fading/multi path. Digital Radio (DAB) and Digital TV both use it. DAB in particular was developed with mobile operation in mind. I think the TV system is less suited for mobile, but if I remember correctly, I think there have been experiments with a modified transmission system for mobile TV.

Hey Ian...

Your 14" B&W portable perched on the passenger seat doesn't count as in-car TV! :P
