Hi mate.

The Mk2 avensis does have problems with the condensated headlights and from what i've read toyota usually change them if the car is under 100,000 miles or 5 years. Seeing as you're serious about buying one tell the dealer you want it done before you part with your money.

They said if it becomes a problem (the lights are already soaked inside, so it's a problem) they will change them, but once they've got your money they'll probably drag their heels.

As for light output when the lioghts are OK, much has been said about them on this forum (try a search on headlights)

I for one think they are pretty poor, but made better by fitting better bulbs (or in my case an HID kit)

Changing the bulbs is a ridiculous job for something that's usually so simple.

Apparently a lot of main dealers drop the bumper but many people (including me) have managed to fit bulbs by using the scraped knuckles/ swearing method.

Good luck with the car and don't expect too many MPG from a 2 litre auto from what i've read on here.

Let us know how you get on, but make sure you get them to sort the lights before you buy the car ;)

This is a well known problem with the Avensis !!insist they are sorted as a previous poster has said !! Changing a headlight bulb on an Avensis is not a 2 minute job I believe the bumper has to be removed in some cases unless you are very nimble with your fingers.

Usually the light bulb holders has to be changed as they can melt the holders I think the replacement ones are metal !The Avensis suffers from very poor dipped headlight beam

Hope it helps

hi and thanks everyone, youve all been very helpful.

BUT........ a quote from a previous thread? adjust the beam to the highest legal limit? what exactley does that mean, i said this to the sales person who went off and spoke to the service manager? who in turn said? the bulbs/lights are set at the legal limit? and they cant be adjusted, YOU CAN ADJUST THE ANGLE? but not the brightness?

they have said that they will replcae the backings on the lights, i said back and front as theres a bit of moisture in the rear lights aswell. but they didnt seem to say that they would replace the whole unit just the back? is this exceptable?
