Hi everyone!

I just bought my first Toyota! Its a 1997 Starlet Sportif 1.3 - plain as you like, 106,000 miles. Its pretty sweet, runs nice gets pretty good mpg, overall Im happy with it as I need an economical car to get me around. :)

The problem is a sound has appeared when the car accelerates, its best described as a 'rattle'. It only happens as the car accelerates hard, then when you ease off it disappears. It doesnt happen when the car is revved as it idles. I had a free check up at a Toyota dealer, they found nothing wrong with the exhaust (my prime suspect at first), suspension or obvious cosmetic cause.

Any ideas?

:help:

I have the same problem :)

mine was the heater sheild that sits on the manifold, basically it had cracked and was rattling, check that as its cheap to replace.

In my experience as you have not found out what it is. The engine could be 'pinking' as you are accelerating or when you put the engine under load. This 'pinking' does sound like rattling.

Best of luck, Zeedijk
