Avensis Verso D4d Suddenly Lost Power?

Hi

Our 4-5 year old Avensis Verso D4D 2 litre diesel turbo and has always worked perfectly fine when last night doing about 40 mph the Engine warniing light came on and it seemed to suddenly lose power. My husband noticed he said immediatley that it was like it got to that the Turbo didn;t seem to kick in and it just then dramatatically lost power even tho the engine was still running the car barely moved.

We managed to pull off and get onto a side road his foot was flat on the accelerator and it was barely tricking forward i thought i was going to have to get out and push :0(

Anyway after about a 10 mins of having the car turned off he turned it back on and the light was off we managed to get the car home but kept the speed low at 40-50.

He had to switch for work now to my Yaris but is going away on business tomorrow so is freaking out abit.

Does anyone have any idea what this might be and if its going to be costly??

Thanks

Hi

Firstly sorry I am a female and know little about cars infact this is my hubby car our family car and we had a little bit of a hair encounter last night so i'm hoping for some advise.

It an 4-5 year old Avensis Verso D4D GLS 2 litre diesel turbo and has always worked perfectly fine when last night doing about 60 mph the Engine warniing light came on and it seemed to suddenly lose power. My husband noticed he said immediatley that it was like it got to that point in the revs when the Turbo kicks in and it just didn't then dramatatically lost power even tho the engine was still running the car barely moved.

We managed to pull off and get onto a side road his foot was flat on the accelerator and it was barely tricking forward i thought i was going to have to get out and push :0(

Anyway after about a 10 mins of having the car turned off he turned it back on and the light was off we managed to get the car home but kept the speed low at 40-50 without over reving it.

He had to switch for work now to my Yaris but is going away on business tomorrow so is freaking out abit.

Does anyone have any idea what this might be and if its going to be costly??

Thanks

Had exactly the same issue on my wife's Avensis Verso D4D (53 plate). The previous owners had the issue occasionally also and Toyota replaced some parts under warranty - but ultimately to no avail - so I'm not currently all that keen on taking it back to the dealer for them to trial and error a fix at my expense. I need to get the code read and go from there, but would be interested in the results of your diagnosis, as this does seem to be a very common problem with the D4D engines.

P.S. Does anyone know what version of OBD port would be on a 53 plate D4D. I bought an OBDII code reader, which worked fine on my 2001 volvo, but didn't want to talk to the Toyota ?
