Smoking Exhaust

Can anyone help? I have a T Spirit D-4D (2.0 litre engine), which has done about 60k miles. When I accelerate hard (and can hear the engine starting to rasp) I can see a cloud of smoke from the exhaust when I look in the rearview mirror. This happens under hard acceleration in each gear, but never happens under gentle acceleration. Other than that the car works goes fine. I have only recently acquired the car, and it has had its 60k service already (but not by a main dealer). Is this normal for a diesel Avensis, or do I need to go to a main dealer to get something sorted out?

It very much depends on how much smoke there is.

Diesels do smoke on hard acceleration, but it's hard to say what is normal...

Excessive smoke could be injectors, MAF sensor or EGR valve issues, but if the car is running fine, then maybe the smoke is in the normal range of what could be expected.

what do you expect from diesel engine when it has reached 60k on the clock?

Have you evr dismantled injectors in order to test all of four?

One'd check it at first ocasion otherwise you'll have more consumption + smoke + cat conv problem + etc.

in case your engine works properly + started fastly then all is iin order with it and its injection timing and smokeless exhaust.

check with injectors :) and do not be in panic.
