Vvti Oil Consumption

I bought my Avensis nearly new in 2001 - it was 3 months old, and an ex-demonstrator at the local franchised dealer.

At about 45000 miles it started using oil. I kept a log of each top up, and it was using a fairly constant 0.65L/1000 miles..... until the start of this year (about 74000 miles). Over the last 1500 miles, it's used about 1.3L/1000 miles.

The car was first registered in late March 2001, so is very nearly 7 years old. On Tuesday of this week I sent a quick email to my local dealers (who also supplied it and have since serviced it). I included my data on the oil consumption, but wasn't very hopeful of a positive outcome. On Wednesday, I was amazed to find a message on my answering machine at home, effectively saying 'no problem, when can you bring it in for an exchange block.'

Currently a very happy customer! It's booked in for early March.

Anyone with a Toyota with, if my memory serves me right, the 1ZZ, 3ZZ or 4ZZ engine, there is a 7 year 112500 mile warranty extension, you need to double check with your dealer regarding the engine codes, but the criteria is a consumption in excess of 1 litre per 1200 miles is classed as excessive.

You just have to take your hats off to Toyota for extending the warranty so far.Cannot see many other manufacturers following suit.Mind you if Renault did they would have been bankrupt years ago.Our workshop is currently full of sick Renaults.
