What Does The Flap In The Air Box Do?

What is the function of the flap located in the air filter box?

If you fit a induction filter kit, you won't have a flap! So why does the air box have it.

Anyone know?

I just want to know if I make this flap permanantly open/remove it, will it have any adverse effects?

Its a noise reduction valve... or butterfly valve.. Lots of people remove theirs.

i have removed mine, makes it have a nice roar after 4k rpm.... as long as you block off the tube when you remove it you will be fine (having had mine removed for the best part of 3 years now)

To remove it you disconnect all the tubes and then literally just pull it straight up.

Thanks aquazi, I'll do that.

What would be the best way to block off the tube?

I used a tire valve cap, and taped it on... others have used screws.... just seal it and leave it in the slot on the airbox.

Thanks for the advice Aquazi.

Well I've taken it off and I see what you mean about the roar!!

Did you find when you removed your that it altered the performance of the car & how did it alter your fuel economy?
