Hi all,

When i bought Snowy the dealer said he only had one key for it. So i went to Timpsons who ordered the spare (£25!!!!!!!!!!!) and last week they cut it. However surprise surprise it doesnt work! it has a 'chip' in it as i wanted it for the ignition as well as the door but it wont fit in eithier.

Anyone had similar problems? will i have to go to Toyota?

Thanks.

If you go to search forum and put in "spare key" (you need the quotes) you will find some threads where this has been discussed. The most expensive but sure route is to go to a Toyota dealer armed with the V5 as proof as ownership.

Good luck

Just had a bit of a shock. Keys to Rav4 stolen, had to have keys, locks etc changed, immobiliser reprogrammed, which cost €900. Thankfully, insurance paid with no excess and no damage to NCD.

Robert

Welcome to the club.

Glad to hear you got sorted out nicely.

I don't think we have any other 1.8 series 2 RAVs so keep in touch with us.

What signature mean?

Regards

I'm English, but am living and working in Ireland this past few years. Slán Abhaile means "safe home" - you commonly see it when you leave a town/village and I guess it's the Irish equivalent of "Drive Safely". Rather unexpectedly, it's pronounced (something like) slawn awolia.

I have a confession to make - the Rav4 is actually my better half's and we got that about a month ago second hand (17k km, 2005 plate) but it's such a gorgeous drive that I've ordered one - it should arrive on Thursday - this will stop me borrowing hers all the time...... Her one is a 2wd, 1800 petrol and, as I say, is super.

Cars in Ireland are a bit different (and a lot more expensive) than UK; in fact, they tend to be less well equipped, mostly on the safety side. To work out the price of a car in Ireland, a simple rule of thumb is to double the sterling price to get what you have to pay in euro. My new Rav4, 2.0 petrol Luna witha few bits on it will be the thick end of €36k.

The wife-to-be had only one key when she bought her used 2002 Rav 4 (and it is falling apart). She got 2 'chipped' keys cut and they worked ok for a while, but have since stopped working (can be used to open the doors, but not start the engine). So looks like an (expensive) trip to the local Toyota dealer-seems strange that the keys she had cut worked initially, but now both have stopped working?

Could be expensive....or in a moment of very bad luck you could loose your keys !! :o .

Thanks. I used to visit Naas quite frequently on business but all that changed when I retired to my current job! I know the cars are expensive but I still love it over there.

Thanks everyone.

Right i took the key back to Timpsons who are going to order the correct one this time! so that solves the mystery as to why it wouldnt fit in the lock. However a different locksmith served me this time and said i would have to program the key and the instructions are usually in the car handbook but if not he them in this locksmith book.

Ok so i looked in the handbook and there are no instructions. I did a search for "spare keys" on the forum (as suggested - thank you) but the situation is a bit different for me - my remote locking is on a seperate key fob and the locksmith said the key has a 'chip' in it that has to be programmed just to do the ignition.

Has anyone done this before? have i just wasted £25? it really isnt my week (see previous post!)
