Aygo Rear Crash Do You Reck They Might Write It Off ?

Hi

Just after some advice, have had a crash on a roundabout where a chap went into the aygo when i was stood still, popping the aygo bumper and damaging it , and looks like the metal inside the boot area has been dented inwards. I think he hit me about 20 miles per hour. His vw polo had nice big bumpers which survived and his number plate had come off.

I also read somewhere Bolt-on crash boxes are fitted to the aygo to absorb the impact.

Do you think they might write the car off ,would the chasis be damaged by this impact ??

The car is due to go to the garge next week for inspection! And might be fixed and worried that it will not be safe.

Thanks

I read somewhere that an aygo is designed to be easily repairable in these exact circumstances to make insurance so cheap. The article went on to explain a front or rear end crumple is supposed to cost about £600 in genuine parts and as it all easy to replace so should be a small labour charge too. Fingers crossed for you. My advice is to make sure you are firm with the insurance company that it is NOT repaired at one of their "APPROVED" repairers - they really do do a crap job generally. When I got my old car back from one of them the bonnet did not shut properly and the door seal was badly fitted. I had to sort out things myself. You are allowed to take it to a garage of your choice but things take a little longer - worth it in my opinion.

Don't let them bully you, argue the value if you truly believe you are being sold short. Especially as it's the other guys insurance.

Hopefully they'll pay a good price so you don't lose out, I got gap insurance with my car to make sure I get the full amount I paid incase of theft or write off. Worth considering?

Also you could buy it back off the insurance cheaply and rebuild it your self and maybe make a bit of profit but you'll then have a financial write off listed agaiast the car. If it's a safety write off you won't be allowed to buy it back.

Where did you get that from, and how much does it cost, etc. I've never bothered with it before, but considering it form my MR2.

Our Rolla has recently suffered a similar incident to adaminwales' Yaris, and it seems it's beyond repair; it's much easier for that to be the case with a low value car. From the discussions we've had it looks as if the car's condition will be taken into account, but I still don't think we'll get what it was worth to us.

We can probably stand for a small loss on the Rolla, but I'd be gutted if the same happened to the MR2, the gap between what I think it's worth and what the insurance would pay out could be massive.

I got it when I bought the car (used), you only have a limited time to do it. Cost depends on the car. The Aygo was supposed to be £300 but I haggled it to half that at £150 for 3 years cover. :D

That's a good price if it provides the cover I need; though mine's a old car so I guess I'll have to shop around and see if I can get a price.

Cheers.

Good luck with getting the Aygo sorted Adam. I think you'll find you're in a much better position than you would have been had the accident been your fault. From the dealings we're currently having with our insurer they seem much more sympathetic than I though they were going to be. Fingers crossed.
