I know this is an old post, but judging by the views, it has had some interest over the years. I was brought to it by typing in P1238, because it came up on my Avensis (2.2 D-4D). For no apparent reason the Engine, TRC & VSC lights came on. The car was running perfect (and had been for a while). I put my OBD2 tester (£20 off Ebay) on the car, and it returned the P1238 code. Finding what the code meant posed a snag. I spent a while trawling the net but wasn’t doing well. Then I came across this site http://www.scribd.co...-0cr-servmanual . There was the answer to the code. “injector malfunction”. First I cleared the code but the lights came back on after 18 miles. After looking at the price of even “re conned” injectors  , I was on a “downer” :crybaby: . A few days later, in Halfords. I spotted a bottle of “Comma Injector Cleaner”. I bought it. Cleared the code (lights out) & poured it in the tank. The lights have never come back on. It cost £6.50 To think that I could have had to spend ££££’s, or worse, being “fobbed off” and having to spend ££££,s. I normally used Shell V Power Diesel, but the time the fault happened was the only time I had used "Supermarket" Diesel. Its V Power all the time now. I hope this helps someone. :)

Regards

Ian
