For about a week or so now I've noticed after Hugo's been driven for 5 or 10 minutes there's a slight whine or high-pitched noise from the engine. It's nothing alarming, I thought it might be a loose belt? Still drives fine and I've noticed no problems.

It's coincided with the realy cold snap we've had here this last week and I'm wondering if something like the fan belt has tightened really tight with the cold and slackens as it warms with the engine and is slipping slightly?

He's an '06 + with just over 12,500 miles.

Anyone else had this?

It's nothing major, if it gets worse or I notice any adverse signs I'll take it to Mr T but for the time being I think I'll leave it to be checked on his birthday* Just thought I'd see if anyone else has any similar probs or can suggest anything.

(*Service  )

The last time my sister's car (pug 106) made a high pitch whining noise was because there was hardly any oil in the engine...

Nah, he's deffo a bloke. He won't let me read his manual, gets angry at bigger cars in front, refuses to ask for directions when lost- everything! :D

First thing I checked- check my oil every couple of weeks along with tyres, coolant, windscreen wash and the Battery ;) (And that's the limit of my car capabilities.

Stay away from Aygo drivers!!

They all seem to be really obsessed with their cars to the point that they give them names and believe they have personalities!!

Do you not like being called Sarah-Jane?

I thought Sarah-Jane was quite a nice name.

But if you don't want to be called Sarah-Jane anymore then i will make a mental note not to call you Sarah-jane again!

My apologies Sarah-Jane!!

I always thought people who named their cars weren't playing with a full deck either, but my Aygo's my first car and it has such a quirky little character I just called him Hugo! :( Bit worrying, really! Maybe I wasn't held enough as a child...

It's worth it for the look on my Dad's face when I refer to my car as "He" and "Him"- it really bothers him I think! :P

You've met my girlfriend then?

I noticed the whine this week, sounds like rough cylinders? Once warmed up say 5mins into the drive it smooths out. Oil checked- all fine there and when its warmer later on from cold, no probs.

Weird- mine starts smoothly when cold then the noise comes in after 5 to 10 minutes or a couple of miles  . I've always driven gently from cold- be it summer or winter- and only give hefty revs when the engine's warm.

mine ticks and knocks when cold. And that sound irritates me, sounds like a rod knock, or very loud valve tick (i have a Supra, believe me, I know that ugly sound :D).

My AYGO has 22 000km, and I've checked oil cap several times, and I've found white milkshake underneath it, but my oil is normal color. Could it be a blown head gasket or some coolant leak or just my Aygo likes milkshakes? :)

i have a solution to any whineing or knocking: :yahoo:

Turn your stereo up louder.:2guns:

this does not help :D and aygo was silent when I bought it, and now... damn european quality :D

Ha, my furry little friends, what you have to do is; buy a very powerful stereo, add some very powerful Speakers, add a big bass box and turn it all up with some Rolling Stones tracks... hey presto... no more WHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! makes the interior mirror fall off tho'.. lol.. :band:

I took Hugo in to see Doctor T this morning, was there about 45 minutes and the mechanic reckons it's the "V-Belt and Tensioner" whatever the heck those are?

He's booked in for next Monday and they're going to skim the brake discs for me too. Said it'll take about four and a half hours and they've booked a courtesy car for me for the day.

I'll give you an update next week. :)
