Rav-4 (4.3) Clutch Query

Hi all, its been a while since I've posted on here (mainly because I've had plenty of miles of trouble free motoring with my T-180!). Anyway its just topped 33,000 miles in about 2 years (06 plate, March 2006). In the last week I've noticed when in 5th and 6th gear on a slight to medium incline if I depress the throttle to accelerate (not hard acceleration) the engine rev's increase as expected but then sharply increase like its not in gear. I think this is the clutch slipping, although I've not experienced it before. It's not happened in the lower gears, although when pulling away quickly in 1st it does seem sometimes like it is slipping then too.

It's just last month had it's 30,000 mile service but nothing was mentioned and I don't even remember if it was on the service sheet.

Is it likely that the clutch is on it's way out? Or can it be adjusted? Also, would it be covered under warranty or would it come under general wear and tear?

Thanks for any info.

Regards,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth

If the revs rise when under load then the clutch is almost definitely slipping.

The clutch cover is a very special self adjusting type which maintains a constant pedal load throughout the life. It cannot be further adjusted. The life of the clutch will be effected by how you drive and the nature of the friction material. It could be that oil has got onto it but I hope that this isn't the case as to some extent we are all waiting to see if there are any skeletons in the cupboard.

I think you need to take it in. If it is fair wear and tear they will bill you but if there is a fault it should be done under warranty.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your T180.

I know you have a gearbox oil change at 20k, so might be worth checking to see if that happened!

I could be barking up the wrong tree... (anchorman will correct me if I am!)

Hi Gareth, sorry but that definitely sounds like a job for MrT :( with any luck it might be related to something else

like an oil leak contaminating the clutch as Anchorman says. Good luck with it anyway. Re Bishop Stotford, a few

years ago while on holiday I met a smashing couple (Brendan & Lesley) who own The Hunters Meet Hotel in your

neck of the woods. Never did get round to their invite for a visit, is it still on the go ?

Thanks all for your replies. I'll book it in for getting looked at and let you know how I get on.

Dave, re the Hunters Meet Hotel, do you know the address? I've never heard of it.

Regards,

Gareth.
