Polish - Scratches

New car (05)- over the moon.

A few scratches - very small, and only surface marks.

I saw something a while ago that hides these - perhaps on CNN and if I remember I also saw it on eBay.

Anyone tried anything like this?

What polish do you use?

Thanks

Nick

Hi Nick

I have used Auto Glym paint renovator in the past to great effect. It is a extra fine cutting compound that takes scratches out of the clear top coat.

You use it sparingly, stopping regularly to check your progress and just enough to remove the scratches, you do not want to rub through the top clear coat. After use it leaves the surface very slightly dull and some normal polish and a bit of elbow grease restores the deep shine. (I use Auto Glym Super resin polish)

I used these two products a while ago after I went down a narrow country lane and was forced against a hedge by a lorry. This left loads of fine long scratches in the clear coat. They all came out with a bit of careful polishing and it looked better than new :-)

All the above are available in Halfords

Hope this helps

Ian

Go into My Controls at the top of the page then into edit my profile and so you'll see the bit to edit. If its a 5 door, leave that bit out....!

try the super resin polish first before you try the renovator, you may find you can remove the scratches using that only.

It's far less abrasive than the renovator.

Funny one

I do it through;

My Controls

then

Edit Personal profile which you'll see half way down the left hand side. That brings up another screen which gives a couple of boxes near the top where the car detail comes up, then lower down is optional stuff.

Maybe someone else will put me right, if I've got this wrong??
