Stereo Has Just Stopped Working - Why?

Hi everyone.

I drive a: 1997 P Reg TOYOTA Corolla 1.3 Sportif Hatchback

with a: Pioneer DEH-2900MP CD Player

I got it last year with 45,000 miles on the clock and one previous owner. I'm more than pleased with it and it handles like a dream on the motorway for a 1.3.

But the stereo has suddenly stopped working and I've no idea why.

I used it one evening, pulled in at home and the next morning there is no sound. The player itself seems to be working - the display is all appropriate to radio or CD but there is just no sound, no hissing, no white noise, nothing.

I've checked all my fuses (I think) and they seem to be fine. The digital clock works fine and the manual says that it's on the same circuit as the CD player. Unfortunately I don't have the CD player removal tool as it was fitted by the dealership and although I have the (not useful at the moment) manual I don't have the tool.

I thought it might just be a loose connection. Anyone else got any ideas?

All you need to do is call in at your local Halfords. They will have the removal tool for the Pioneer H/U and will be able to fit a new CD/Tuner from their range for you for a few quid.

I don't need a new player but I will go to Halfords and see if they can sort it out, thanks.

Forgive me if I'm talking out of my hat here, but don't a lot of stereos and audio equipment in general usually have fuses inside them too? I used to have a Pioneer stereo years ago and it kept blowing these tiny little glass fuses inside it that looked like this...
