Where To Buy A Genuine Avensis Key, Cut & Programmed?

Hello All,

I am a newbie but have spent alot of time reading your post regarding Avensis key replacement and programming. I have just recently purchased an Avensis 1.8 GS VVTi 2002 model which came with the one master key (black two button). Went down to my local Toyota dealership and was quoted a ridiculous £180  They also told me no one can cut the key apart from them, i wasn't sure if what they were telling me is correct as after all we are just talking about a key....surely a specialist car locksmith can cut it.

Can anyone please help? where i can source a replacement key and possibly get it programmed to my ECU.

Many Thanks all.

Hi

I bought myself a second hand key from eBay for £10 got a blade cut at Timpsons for £5 used the instructions in this thread

http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.p...key+programming

to reprogram the immobilizer and the transponder (two separate processes) . At first I taped the transponder to the timpson key to enable me to program it.

I have since ended up removing the metal part of the key from both the toyota and timpson keys taping the keys (the metal parts) together and cutting/grinding/filing the butt end the the timpson key so it fits the toyota one. It now fits the toyota Shell which houses the transponder and it works great and is just as solid as my original key.

I was quoted £150 at first from toyota then £65 plus vat from the same place (Doncaster) a few weeks later. I was going to take them up on this second quote but was so pleased with the one I cobbled together I told em I would not need it. I am in the process of doing another one (to keep in my pocket so I can poke Mr Toyota in the eye when I bump into him)

My key was the 3 button type the reprogramming is a bit different for the 2 button (I think)

and I am not sure if the key blade can be removed from the plastic Shell on a 2 button key as I have never seen one. The 3 button one only required a sliver of plastic removing and the blade popped out.

If you don't fancy faffing about like I have

try this link

it gives a freephone number

Good Luck

Regards Chris
