Fast idle when cold...?

I have an '88 Celica GTi (3S-GE..?) with 160 miles on the clock. When I first start the engine from cold the revs immediately climb to around 2000 rpm and remain there until the engine has warmed up. I'm pretty sure this is not normal so what is causing the problem..?

Also the rear window demister doesn't seem to work. When I press the button I'm sure I can hear a relay operating and the light comes on but the window doesn't clear. Any ideas..? Is it on a circuit breaker and if so where is it..?

Cheers,

Mick

Auto-choke was the first thing that came into my mind too, a quick blip of the accelerator should disengage it. Also I have the very same problem with the rear demister in my Sera I'd be very interested to hear any solutions (all the electric strips in the window are okay with no breaks either)

Hmmm I think someone must be using your PC because you IP address is the same as the other two posts.

You can change the password in the control panel plus also a good idea to log out when finished if someone else uses your PC.

Yup.

Thats normal for a celica on "cold start"

Mine actually revs quite low compared to others i've spoke to- my cold start runs at about 1600-1800 rpm.

Its nothing to worry about, just one of the quirks of owning a celica :)

the quicker you drive off , the sooner it will go to under 900 rpm my friend.

Your demists on your rear windscreen might be the metal strips have cracked, or the wire has broken in the tail gate, because of where its been opening and shutting for years on end!! Mind you i'm not an electritian, but that is what was wrong with an old gte that I once embarressly owned

This sounds about right for the demister, Get a voltmeter or a 12v bulb and holder with two lengths of wire. One for the + The other for earth. Then switch the demister on and bridge the two contacts on the rear window. You should get a reading on the voltmeter or the bulb will light.

If nothing shows then the fault is in the wiring before the window. This is where you`ll need to do some detective work. Finding where wires run etc. Good luck.
