04 Corolla Radio Lcd And Clock Fault

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has seen this before.

The LCD on the standard corolla radio (Model : W58814) has gone black. Kinda like light black vertical lines coming down though the display. You can still see the frequency that the radio is tuned to and still hear the radio (music, talk, etc). It's just that the screen is very dark. I compared it to another corolla and it shouldn't be like that.

The other problem that seems to have occured at the same time is that the clock on the radio display does not move forward in time. If you set the time at 09:10am and leave the car and then return an hour later it will still be at 09:10 even though it is now actually 10:10.

I've seen the posts on how to remove the radio...I was just wondering was there any point...or does anyone know what might be causing this. I don't think it's as simple as a fuse.

Thanks.

Sounds pretty much that the LCD on the unit has gone ...... if that is the problem then there's no other thing to do than to live with it or buy a new or secondhand (ebay) unit.

If you are covered by your warranty they should be able to fix it no problem (well swap the unit)

That's what I was afraid of!

I had a look on eBay but most of the ones that I seen where in the US. Can you get them in the UK? How much would second hand one be...or a new one for that matter?

Their is a function on the radio to turn off the backing light on the lcd display, stops it distracting you. Hold the mode ent button in for a few sec's, try that before you go and buy a new radio, mite just be it

Hi Hoggie,

I was away for the weekend, so just seeing this message now. Thanks for the tip. I'll try that and let you know how it goes.

  • 1 month later...

That wasn't it.

BUt anyway the display has started to work all by itself again....must be a loose wire at the back. Not worth taking it all out. It's working fine for now anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions
