Hmmmmm

They dont do a beam converter, however, they do headlamp protectors and on the fitting instructions, it appears to show a position where you can blank off to drive in Europe. PM me your email address and I will mail it over to you

I'm taking my Auris over to France/Belgium early in March, and just wondered if there have been any advances on a conversion kit since this discussion last surfaced a year ago?

Cheers

Matt

when i used to live in Belgium you also had to carry a fire extinguisher, a spare bulb kit, a triangle and your driving licence and insurance documents must be kept in the car. This was a few years ago so not sure if the law has changed.

What kind of difference there has to be in your headlights, to be able to drive legally in France? I'm just curious.

Curious too, what do you have to do with your lights when driving in France?

Is there not a lever or knob that you can change the alignment of the bulbs with?

My clio 172 had this and it negated the need for converters as it changed a RHD headlight to a LHD headlight!

It's not just in France, it's all of mainland Europe. The headlights on all modern cars are designed to rise towards the nearside curb. For us in the UK that is pointing left. When in mainland Europe with a UK spec car you need to have beam converter to stop this so that the beam isn't directed straight at oncoming traffic. On previous cars it has made night time difficult as it cuts out too much light, but with the French authorities not being the kindest towards us Brits, it's a modification that you really should do before travelling over/under the English Channel.

Ok, thanks for the info! Didn't know about that and the whole idea seems very odd... I thought it's enough to have legally equipped car according to the country's regulations where the car is registered in! For example in Finland it has to fill Finnish regulations, in the France French ones etc.

If you go to holidays it's insane to start doing mods to your car!!

BTW just came to my mind... As there's a levelling mechanism which you can use from the inside in Auris, can't you just turn the lights a littlebit downwards so that the angle will become different and they won't blind anyone?

Best regards, Alex

This silly rules for driving make me laugh why does everything has to be different what kind of EU is this. A crappy one I have to say, I think the only thing standard is the dam economic rules so that some can take advantage of the smaller ones.

Here a few years ago I remember my dad had a fire extinguisher but it's mandatory now. Whats mandatory is a silly reflection jacket. In Spain you need 2 triangles so I've heard but I never took the extra when I went there. The spare bulb kit i never heard of it. The only rule I can agree is this one from UK to Europe in fact that make a difference for us while driving everything else doesn't affect the other drivers that much.

Why we have to know the rules of the other countries it's just silly specially if the borders are open. Is there any kind of info about this when you are crossing the border? No so if I'm not Spanish or French and I'm there for a limited amount of time this rules shouldn't apply. Pretty soon we wil have our trunk filled up with this silly items if we want to travel all around europe and no space for our bags. That's nice....

By the way I'm sure someone is making millions with this reflective jacket silly rule :\
