Brakes Weeping On All Wheels

Hi, I am a new member.

My wife loves her 2001 RAV4 but it has a problem.

All 4 tyres have leaked brake fluid on. Nearby pipes are wet but not split.

It seems to me that excess system pressure could cause this so I am thinking servo problem.

Does anyone out there have any thoughts?

Much appreciated.

David

The braking system IS high pressure anyway. You should not have any brake fluid on the wheels, has it been serviced or looked at? perhaps it had a brake fluid change and there is some residue fluid around? (there shouldnt be I know) If it is on all four wheels it must be checked immediatly. Is the fluid level low? To have fluid on all four wheels means a problem with all four calipers/cylinders. See if you or a competant person can get a proper look to see where it is precisely coming from. Don't be tempted to drive it until your sure of the problem, if necessary, have it recovered to a garage

Hi David

Welcome to the club.

If you press the brake pedal as hard as you can you will build up pressure in excess of 100 bar (approx 1500 psi). You could sit with this pressure all day and it will not come out of any joints or connections. There is no residual pressure in the system and pressing the brake that hard would result in a full emergency stop.

As kingo says, if it is brake fluid and nobody has been playing there is something horrendously wrong and it needs to be looked at immediately.

All very fishy. Although I would not advocate you ignoring it for one minute I can't help thinking it is something else. Have you had new tyres recently?
