Mr2 Mk3 Jap Import. Wheezing Noise?

Hi everyone! I`ve had my MR2 for 2 weeks now and first i`ll just say it is a superb car. I love it! The engine has a sweet sound when accelerating but the only thing is when i press the clutch there is a type of wheezing sound. I can`t really describe it that well but it is starting to worry me. Does anybody know what this could be? Also the car has got 17" wheels on with 205 40 17 toyo`s all round. I read on here that wider tyres should be fitted at the rear. Is this true? They are quite new (expensive) tyres and didn`t really want to change them if it weren`t neccesary but should I?

Hi and welcome to the club Daz?

The clutch noise could be a couple of things depending where the sound is coming from, one is a dry bush at the top of the pedal, the other could be the thrust bearing or fork arm which you will hear from the engine bay.

Regarding your wheels and tyres, cfc1 (Davey) will be along to answer that pretty soon I'm sure

Tyre issue...

These cars were standard with a staggered setup (wider on the rear) and this was done for a reason... handling. Take a look at most mid engined sports cars and you will see that most of them have similar set ups. With the same sized tyres all round you run the risk of snap oversteer, this is where the back end kicks out without warning, especially on damp/wet/greasy surfaces. With the same sized tyres all round you are running the risk of this happening to you.

Get them changed as soon as possible.. in the mean time.. drive like your grand mother.
