High Mileage

Hi

I've just joined to help find info to keep my hugely loved 1993 2.0 gti celica on the road. It's become a personal mission to see just how far you can push toyota engineering - they're amazing - I'm currently at 215,000 miles and still going!! I've owned the car for 3yrs and do about 20k a year and every mile is fun!

Has anyone else on here got such a high mileage example?

Welcome; that's a pretty impressive mileage.

I don't know of any Celicas with more miles on the clock. Plenty are well over 100K but not heard of many that have done over 200.

Incidentally, the distance from the surface of the earth to the surface of the moon is about 230K miles IIRC. You're almost there.

It's very encouraging to see it's still going strong. Just wish people were more accepting of these great cars and just how long they can last if well looked after. Keep her on the road bud!

I drive a '92 Celica GT with the 2.2L 5SFE engine. I'm currently at 231,000 miles and running strong. I laugh when people say they wouldn't buy anything with 100k or 150k on it. They think thats high mileage. As far as I'm concerned, any car that can't make it near 200k without an engine or transmission swap isn't worth the time of day. Don't worry about your cars miles to much; if regular maintenance is done, you won't have to many major repair bills. I know guys with close to 300,000 miles on their 5th gen. Celicas. I'll admit that I've had to do repairs, but nothing much more expensive than a stealership would charge for a basic tune up. Many people always want a warranty with their car, most warranties now of days are a joke anyway if you read the fine print. You still pay for all of the routine maintenance, and any money saved from a large repair covered under warranty is usually spent on an extended warranty or in interest for their outrageous car payments. It's much cheaper any day to buy a used car and keep it running, which isn't all that difficult if you educate yourself about your car. Anyway, got a little off topic there. Congratulations with your car, keep it running.

I have friend who has 800,000 miles on his Celica he just loves it and keeps it going

Wow. 800K miles is a very good record.

I have a Gen 7 GTS auto with 342K miles, all original engine and xmission.  I am logging about 12K miles a year so it would  take me another 40 years to reach that mileage.

It still runs smooth and strong like new, compression about 220 PSI in all cylinders despite lots of hard drives and abuses over the year.
