Corolla T Sport Mileage

Hi

Ive had a T Sport from new for 5 and a bit years and have done 64,000 miles in it, and only had to replace the headlight bulbs!

I was thinking of changing it but can't find anything I like to change it to, I dont like the Auris T180, over priced and the looks dont grab me.

I was hoping Toyota are going to replace the MR2/Celica with something sexy but that doesnt seem on the horizon either?

So I was thinking of keeping the T Sport for a while longer, and wondered what sort of mileage people had got out of them?

Am I likely to need lots of things replacing, cam chain etc as the hassle is more annoying than the cost.

So what mileage have you got out of yours?

Thanks

Tim

My car is also 5+1/2 years old but with a lower mileage 37000miles. (Got a Porsche and Beemer to enjoy in the weekend)

Bought it in 9/02 for £14500---manage to haggle almost 10% off list price. Consider the Type R at that time but pick the CTS cause

1. Rarer

2. Cheaper to buy and run (Better fuel economy, insurance, better equipment, cheaper servicing)

3. Better looking in my opinion

4. Safer to drive in the wet (Got ESP, Brake assist and 2 extra airbag)

5. No boy racer image

Did some minor mods HID lights, TTE silencer, Pipercross, Bilstein kit etc.. to make it nicer to use and drive. Nothing breaks so far other than the usual wera and tear components! Just fill the tank and it just keep going! Not even a rattle!

I had been working in a really dodgy area for the last 2 years! So I cannot buy anything that is too attention seeking. I did think about replacing it with a fast diesel! There are 2 that grab my attention:-

1. The Auris 180--it is slower than the T-sport 0-60 and top speed. Don't like the shape. Cheap interior.

2. Golf GT 170--Similar top speed with our car. Probably faster in real world driving but the shape is far too

common

Both are way too expensive anyway!

Any suggestion???? A fast diesel that can outgun our t-sport in 0-60 and top speed selling less than £20000 new!

Ive test driven the Auris 180, and it pulled very strong, but acceleration was lack lustre, and I agree the shape and build quality didn't see the same.

I was still interested in what mileage people had got out of a T sport and what things have worn out?

Mine got 85000mile,just changed the oil today, but i only found out about a week ago the cylinder block was replaced in 2005,dont know why it was done yet, replaced under warranty by Toyota. Doing oil every 5k on it now, just as a precaution. Air injection pumps seem to jack it in with age,iv replaced mine and think a few other people have had to as well, 800 euro for the part so steep enough

Thanks Hogie, gives me a warmer feeling. I think I'll keep it for awhile and wait for something new to replace it with.

It gets an annual service at Toyota but Im only doing 8k now adays.

Any further comments appreciated, anyone got 120k out of a T sport ;)

mines done 42000, had brake calipers and a water pump replacement

engine blocks also known as short motors replaced due to problems with oil consumption there were other threads on here regarding that topic

hopefully its going this week in favour of a return to a celica

Arent the problems with oil consumption mainly down to pre 2002 VVTI 140 engines??? Didnt your car stop using lots of oil after it was changed to a different brand? Havent heard of many people with oil consumption problems on 190s...

I've done nearly 7,000 miles in mine and it has used very little oil (its about 80% full) Certainly uses no more than my dads new Volvo S40 and i use Lift a fair bit....

Hmmm not thought of that, never checked the oil on mine, goes into the garage every 10k, never missed a beat. Its a late 2002 model, still runs and drives like new, although the clutch bit has always been very vague. Ive had new front disc's and pads last year, thats all. Maybe I was deluded by the "legendary" Toyota build quality, wasnt expecting problems with it.

Choading, mine is a Red 5 door T sport (I have kids), seen several around Cambridge, saw one today in Huntingdon in fact. A friend has a silver compressor aswell, so they arent that rare, although with rising petrol prices they will get rarer!

Cheers

Tim

I've got a 02 plate CTS which I brought in November 2005 and it only had 16.5k miles on the clock. The car is still pretty low mileage at 38k miles now but I've had no problems with the car other than usual wear and tear.

Seems reliable and still quite a solid car although it has a few rattles.

Servicing has mostly been a breeze and not too expensive for the car.

Coming from a Peugeot 206 the Corolla is a 'Godsend' :D

  • 1 month later...

Hi there

mine is an 05 plate and has done 65000 miles (used to be boyfriends work car!) we havet really had any probs except it seems to eat brakes. Needed new discs and pads at 18months old and just needed new pads and tyres to pass its MOT but relatively minor compared to the fun you get from it

Enjoy :D

Hi Tim,

Mine was an 03 with 75k or there abouts, just swapped with an Auris T180.

The look of the T180 is not spectacular, if you like cosmetics then as someone else mentioned, the SR180 is def a looker. Agreed that the interior is not the classiest looking, but it has grown on me since owning it 5 days ago! What it does lack is storage in the cabin for the driver... other than that its pretty effective with everything reachable.

My CTS had zero problems all the way to the end of my ownership with daily thrashing... Was a brilliant car.

I had my lift bolts done when it was around 60k miles just as a precaution as i use to use the lift many times a day.

Apart from that it behaved impeccably and was trouble free and enjoyable.

Enjoy yours!!!

Quite a few diesel out there that can outgun at 0-60... for example BMW 120d/320d; Audi A3 TDI 170 or above.

Don't think our t-sport will get outgun! Similar performance!

BMW 120d lighter than 320d 0-62 7.6s top speed 142mph Manufacturer figures Cost £19820+options

VW Golf 170 same engine as the Audi but lighter 0-62 8.2s 137mph Manufacturer figures £19700

For those of you who bought the Auris T180, Autoexpress had tested it against the Renault Megane Dci 175---Both need more than 9sec to get to 0-60mph

Our corolla t-sport was tested by Topgear in 3/02 0-60mph 7.3s 0-62mph in 7.8s 0-100mph in 18.6s top speed 132.7mph on a banked circuit (These figures are taken in wet)

The only small hot diesel that can eat our T-sport or even a Golf GTi is the BMW 123d cost £24295. Autocar tested the coupe version which is heavier than the 3 dr hatch 0-60mph 6.7s 0-100mph 18s top speed 148mph does 40mpg with emission 138g/km What an engine! Shame that the car look like a breadvan!
