Power heater. It makes the light on the button glow. To be honest, I'll be buggered if I can work out what else it does!!!

Well there's me thinking it would keep my ***** warm!

Yes, it's a power heater for the engine. In Norway where I'm from, the Avensis comes pre-installed with this supplemental diesel-heater, to make the engine reach it's operating temperature much faster. You have to push the button to start it, when the engine is running, and the heater makes a primus-like noise. Perhaps you guys just have the button, not the heater (located in the engine room)...

It is a very nice feature during winter !

Yep, it's a stove heater for very cold area spec vehicles. It doesn't warm the engine, it warms the air coming into the cabin, as it would take ages for the diesel engine to reach a temperature to warm the driver.

HI All,

After trying to work out what this button was for ( thought maybe heated side mirrors or heated seats) i eventually read the manual... Turns out it like Slarti54 said. It warms up the cabin area to keep the driver warm in winter weather or cold weather
