Help Required-intermittant Fault On Vvti

My Gen 7 VVti has been flawless since new (03). However, recently has developed a (very) intermittant little problem. Every now and then (sometimes weeks apart) when im drving at low revs and put the foot down, it gives a very subtle hesitation before it picks up. It feels similar to what an old carburator car would do if you put the foot down and pulled the choke out. Although not quiet as harsh as that.

I realise this could be caused by a number of things but wondered if anyone had anything simmilar with their gen 7. Any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

I can't say I've had this problem. Only time this has hit me I think, is when I hit the gas too hard too quickly.

You are right it could be a number of things. Have you recently change fuel suppliers? When was the air filter last cleaned? Could be fuel filter or a sensor is playing up.

I'd say put in some good fuel cleaner and use a good brand fuel for a few tanks & clean the air filer out. Then see how she goes.

I'll give these things a go mate thanks. Now you mention it , i dont think its had an air filter change/clean for a long time . The car was my company lease vehicle which i just had to buy at the end of the lease. I liked it too much to hand back. Servicing was part of the lease.

Its going smooth as silk as i speak, it done the above yesterday. A blast of high rev driving cleared it. So you might have something there.

Thanks again

No probs. I'd say it might be mainly a fuel thing, but give the filter a good clean. Plus give your plugs a clean if you don't want to service it properly just yet.

It's surprising what some funny fuel will do (ie, 1 garage saying I needed a new carb on an escort I owned, when all it needed was cleaning)!

Just an update. I'm almost embarrased to say the air filter was filthy, so i put a new one in. What a difference. Better response and acceleration. Smooth as silk.

Thanks again

Hi,

Try cleaning the MAF located at the of the air intake where the engine block is. Many problems of over reving and loss of power is due to this. I cleaned mine before and car is fine.

Just a quick point, when cleaning the MAF be very careful as its a delicate bit ok kit ok, dont go using a wire vrush or anything, a compressed air can would probly be most suitable.

just thought i'd mention this... i put redex injection cleaner in my tank and got a CEL the following day, diagnosed as Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction. Mr T who diagnosed it said it was probably caused by a single misfire and advised against using fuel additives....but then again, they would wouldn't they :)
