Hi

Everyone!

We have a 54 plate Rav4 XT4 and are thinking to change over to a T180 but the fuel economy worries me from reading reviews on "What car" also what are the down falls of run flat tyres ??? i know you can do 50mph and only go about 50 miles with a flat but what if your nearest Toyota garage is 60/70 miles away !!! would love to hear from anyone with a T180 or XT5 Thank U :D

hi, I am in the same position as you, we had a t180 for a weekend test, and yes is was a bit more jiucy than i thought, but then that was mainly down to the excited foot, wanting more of the torque, its awsome, so a price to pay i guess. Manxrav has a t180, even she has only managed 35 ish to the gallon, and they dont have motorways in the I.O.M.

As regards to the runflat thing, yeh i have concerns too, especially the cost to replace, not good!!!

Not sure if it will put me off though, the styling of the t180 is the best to look at.

had the same problem when we bought our 2nd rav4, wanted the styling of the vx, but on a gx, cant be done they said, so ended up pushing the expenses and getting a new 51 plate vx (look at my post under gray22 pics), she is now for sale too.

I have asked if its possible to dress up an xtr or the xt5 as this is very close in spec to the 180, but nope is the answer, think Toyota have it pretty well sussed out.

best of luck, let me know what yah do in the end.

why cant you dress a XT5 to look like a T180 the grill is £84 from kingo the arches must be available as a part, get a chip from kingo.and you will have the same torque as a T180 much better fuel consumption and a spare wheel as well for a lot less money

go onto rav4 world in the U.S there are people buying and fitting them for fun from a toyota dealer in Florida, what happens if a T180 owner damages one can it not be replaced? They have to be available as a part but not as an accessory.

Thata what i thought, i had no problem getting the lower front arch extension for my vx, and it came pre painter,Argenta silver, easy to fit.

So my heads telling me, order them from different dealers, if one dealer wont orde rthe whole set.

its hard getting it across to a dealer, i mean, it could be the difference of sale or no sale. beats me.

hi gray and anyone else interested. Ihave had similar problems over fitting a T180 grill to my rav let me first say you can buy the chrome part from aT180 as a part from MrT its £24.50+vat but it will NOT fit your standard grill.you have to buy the whole grill.i will expand on this if anyones interested. As most of you

know by now i am useless on a computer so dont know how to give you a link but if you go into RAV4WORLD then 4.3 exteriors in topics then fender flares posts 3/4/5 you will see ravs that have added wheel arch extensions they are ordering them via their MrT.. from Deland Toyota in florida so if you really want them i bet including shipping they would prob be cheaper than here.remember our american cousins call our ravs short wheelbase. GOOD LUCK

Welcome to the club R5BAX!

As a T180 owner I can reassure you that the fuel economy isn't that bad! If you keep the car below 2000rpm then you'll easily get around the 40mpg mark. Of course, there's no fun in that! My wife drives like a test driver for a F1 team and the fuel economy drops to around 32-33mpg as a result.

Until Toyota fit run flats to the whole Rav range, there will always be worries about them on the T180. My advice would be to find a dealer who will only charge your for the tyre plus fitting (instead of a tyre and support ring) when they wear down. That way, you will save yourself around £115!

On the plus side, my wife is the main driver of the car and I'm reassured to know that in the event of her having a puncture she can still drive the car home!

The T180 is the best 'soft roader' money can buy, and if you can get one, go for it!

I have had my T180 for about a month now and do really like the engine, but you're right to be concerned over the claimed / real life mpg. Since week 1 I have been as delicate as possible with the right pedal but still only manage 32mpg (when i got it it said it'd averaged 19mpg (it was a demonstrator so no doubt used to show the 'power')), and before anyone says about the trip computer i have checked the milage/petrol used and its right at 32mpg.

With regards to the run-flats i went over a bottle after a week and pulled out a large chunk of glass. As a precaution i rung the local garage (Bury, Lancs) and they had a machine and 1 spare tyre in at the time (luckily it hasn't seemed to have actually punctured!). I didn't ask about cost but they said it was a 2 hour job so labour might have been the biggest hit!

Like some of the others on this post the wheel extensions and grill make the T180 stand out just enough and the SAT Nav, heated leather are certainly worth it. I actually followed another identical silver T180 the other day and it certainly looked fast from behind!

Good luck with your decision making! :D

I reckon I get between 32-24mpg with my normal driving style.

I have got 38mpg before, when on a relaxed motorway journey (but still 70+ mph :) ) So do think it's possible to get 40mpg, if I tried. But as duncs said, where's the fun in that!!
