i keep reading this term called 'lift'- sorry for my ignorance but being in my mid 40's and being relatively new to this forum i haven't really mingled with other hot hatch owners- i take it you refer to 'lift' as being acceleration ( if so it's a knew term i've never heard of before) but having only owned escorts in the past i was surprised by the power of the t sport when overtaking as i was always afraid of breaking the engine in the mark 2's as they were really noisy! great forum by the way im picking up plenty of tips from t sport owners, ardbrand

Hi Mate and welcome,

Lift is the surge in acceleration you get at 6200 rpm :D

Great feeling, you will never get bored of it, trust me :)

Its when you take the t sports engine over 6200rpm and up to about 8000,you get a surge in power, just when the car will really start moving. When you look at the engine cover it got vvtl-i written on, the l stands for lift.

Hope that helps.

the lift is at 6200rpm, at this point the cam changes to a higher profile cam lobes making the valve's lift higher taking in more fuel an air causing the sudden surge of power

Dont worry about giving her a bit of stick now and again..its very easy to hit off the limiter...these engines are designed for a bit of abuse otherwise they wouldnt be putting them in Lotuses and Kit cars

cheers all for clearing up the term 'lift' for me! to be honest i went to the dealers in search of a modest 4 door corolla as i'd heard about their reliability but their look didn't immediately appeal so when the dealer suggested a test drive in the only T sport in the showroom-an 02 silver model( i'd previously never heard of the T sport before as i was looking for a celica or yaris) i was well impressed by the performance of the car-but concerned about running costs so i test drove the yaris the same morning -no comparison! i bought the t sport but have since only taken it into town for the school run and work where the speed limit is 50 mph! i havent taken it on motorway yet and so when we head of to lake district later in year i will take the car to the 'lift' and find out what i been missing! thanks again for your friendly replies -ifeel abit of a ****** for not having known about this term as i've only ever owned escort 1100's in the past so it's quite a step up in power for me! regards, ardbrand

Certainly hold on tight and be alert when you go for the lift... If you have never felt it before and if you never had a quick car, it can catch you out. :)

I moved from a 1.4 megane to the TS and never previously owned anything more than 90BHP... On the test drive i was taken aback by the power of the lift and was slightly scared by it. BUt i am now used to it and truly addicted.

Enjoy.

I moved from a 67bhp Yaris to the 189bhp CTS, i think i did nothing but engage lift every time i drove it for the first few days!

Purposely left it in low gears when i should've been changing so that the revs built up and lift engaged!

I dread to think what i spent in fuel doing it!!

60BHP up to 190BHP

Best buy a Road Angel!

Well 90 to 190... But the Megane was so fat and heavy that it felt like it was 60BHP...

And i did buy a snooper for the CTS!

I was like that for the first 6 months at least... Before i understood the true meaning of mechanical sympathy.

I think the lift is by far the most addictive engine feature of any car (stock) out there...I truly believe that. Nothing kick as hard and as sudden as that... Couple this with an addictive personality, you have yourself a LIFT ADDICT.
